How was Michelin's f**k up at Indianapolis Schumacher's fault?

After watching the incident I agree that he did it on purpose, the dumba**

And although I'm not trying to defend him in any way, he isn't the first driver to do stunts like this. I remember Ayrton Senna running both Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost off the track in order to win the world championship.

Anyway, Carlos: Did you notice what kind of watch that Alonso's chief mechanic was wearing? I got a good look at it during 1st practice from the inboard camera in Alonso's car when they rolled him back in the garage. I think you know which one I'm talking about

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

When Schumacher and Ferrari win...they are THE F1 gods. When they loose, well...humiliation is nothing new in this business.

The truth is: there is no Schumacher right or wrong doing, there is a TEAM. Schumacher makes his decisions based on the strategic discussions and decisions taken with the whole Team, he is no one man show, even if it may look that way. And don't forget, guys: it is about a lot of money too, not to speak about invaluable publicity.

You guys also have to understand that F1 drivers aren't only passionate about their job and their actions but really MANIAC about it. Have you ever looked at the reaction of drivers who have a technical issue/accident and have to quit the race? Their reaction? Their behaviour towards people around them immediately after they exit the race? Unbelievable. You don't get to drive in the king's class without a reason, even the worst F1 driver is very likely faster than 99% of the drivers out there in the real world.

And to make it short: Ferrari is dumb. They should have stopped their F1 involvement at the top of Schumacher's career, same goes for "Schumi" too. Right now, Ferrari's F1 involvement actually is the worst publicity for them and I'm not even sure they realize it. And on top of that, Schumacher's strategic playgame didn't work out, he got busted, hitting Ferrari reputation to another low.

I think that Porsche was very clever not to enter the F1 "circus" for various reasons. And Ferrari should have stopped while they could. Now they HAVE to stay involved because dropping out of the F1 involvement would only tell people that they're "afraid" of Renault. Which brings me to my next and last point: the quality of a F1 car and the results in F1 racing don't have ANYTHING to do with the street products of certain car companies. I already found the BMW V10 example pretty ridiculous when BMW tried to advertise the new BMW M5/M6 as some sort of F1 "derivate" product. But even the Ferrari street versions don't have much in common with the F1 involvement and although Ferrari claims that a lot of their F1 experience goes directlx into street car development, I highly doubt it.
Right now, F1 involvement is just a bunch of money wasted for nothing in my opinion. One reason why I'm not a huge fan of the F1 circus. Yes, I admire the drivers but I never admired the cars. Have you guys ever looked at the technology used for these cars? Not even close to what we're driving and most of us don't drive a "bread and butter" car to say at least. Sorry, the F1 circus is just some sort of high society gig in my opinion, some sort of "give the people bread and games..." thing. Whenever I see Flavio make his moves and talking on TV, I'm close to vomiting. This guy not only looks funny, he seems to think he owns the world (which from a certain point of view may be even true ). This guy is so pathetic and arrogant in my opinion. Another funny person is Bernie himself, oh boy, that Andy Warhol look sometimes gives me the creepies.

Seriously: I rather enjoy a Porsche Supercup or Ferrari Challenge race than this kind of crap. It was interesting in the past, especially when drivers like Mansell and Senna were around but right now, the F1 has become more and more a hightech show for the rich and famous and this includes the car companies. I just hope that Alonso stays the way he is now, it would be a pitty if this very sympathetic driver gets between the wheels of the Formula One machine.

Finally, a picture which says it all I guess. I wonder if her b..bs are accredited for the event or her journalistic talent?!

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

Well said RC. The only problem is that when you've been a fan of F1 for so long like me you really don't want to believe whats happening to this sport. You just hope that things will improve somehow!! But I guess it won't happen.

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

So you believe it was team orders that made Schummacher block the field? I think that's doubtful, especially with his behavioral patterns?

What do you mean to say about the technology in the cars? The fact that they don't race slicks?

The sport changed when Senna died; they realized that besides brand loyalty, they could not afford to lose their star talents. It was tamed down (no more turbos, no more huge slick tires) but as a result we see ingenuity.

To give an example, I think the Ferrari flex-wing was genius. What a concept! Lower drag on the straights, increase downforce on the bends! I love it!

Technology is still a beautiful part of F1. That is not to say that it isn't convoluted by politics (i.e. engine switch, tyre pandering, regulations), but we are seeing the pinacle in aerodynamics (insane downforce), transmission (the new Honda DSG is practically seamless) and engine build (Cosworths revving up beyond 20k rpms!).

Couple that with a young and effervescent talent pool (Alonso, Raikkonen, Rosberg, Massa, Button) and you have a sport that still has a lot of potential.

I think where Kimi goes next year will be very important to the sport. If he lands with a competitive team and McLaren is able to provide a good platform for Alonso, we could see a great rivalry nearing the magnitude of Prost/Senna (especially if Kimi stays at McL).

Even though its 80% car, 20% driver (imo), if the two best drivers have the same car, it equalizes the dividens...

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

RC, that girl may have lots of journalistic talent. A good tan, tight bod and nice breasts are no reason to discount her ability. Lets hear her opinions on F1

Hers couldnt be anyworse than some of the male"journalists" who prance about the pits in Nomex race suits acting like [censored] fanboys.

F1 has always been about the rich. It started out for the rich, grew for the rich and will stay for the rich.

The Porsche Cup and Ferrari Challenge series are one trick
warm acts for real racing. If they combined the two and had them race double the laps it might be more fun. As they are now, they are nearly just a exhibition for brand promotion and a way for the less talented rich to get their ya ya's off in front of a crowd while mixing it up with some real drivers.

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

Get a life! - you can't blame the guy for the fact that Michelin produced rubbish tires for the event. And btw, how many times did Senna and Prost drive each other off the road to decide a world championship?

Schumacher made mistakes in his life like we all did. Whether it was on purpose this time or not, he got the penalty for it. Race is over and the discussion should be over now as well.

Most of the talk is just "politics" by a bunch of jealous losers driving around in circles every two weeks without winning anything, ever.

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

We could probably nit pick every driver for their actions during a given season! Most, if not all, of them make mistakes and get caught up in the battle on occasion - that's just part of racing, IMO. Michael is just much more high profile and driven than most. I fully appreciate his "sheer... determination to win."

ALL the drivers were unanimous, they said there was no need to look at the telemetry, anybody who has driven an F1 in Monaco knows that it was completely obvious without the least doubt.

Even the spectators were booing Schumacher on site and after when he was leaving the track to go rest. It was embarrasing for Forumula One. Schumacher is a great driver but a mediocre actor Everybody also says that if its wasn't schumy/ferrari the sanction would have been much worse than just being on the back of the grip for a GP.

    Schumacher's top five:

1* Schumy purposedly collides and pushes Damond Hill out of the track in order to take the championship form him.
2* Schumy tries the same with Villenueve but the stunt does not work for him this time and is also punished with the loss of all point earned up to date on that season.
3* 2002 Barichello is "ordered" to slow down and LET shummy win in a pathetic and unsportive show across the finish line.
    4* 2004 Indianapolis fiasco
5* 2005 Monaco GP Shumy puposedly parks the car during classifying in order avoid other drivers beating his lap time.

    Carlos,

Regarding #3- I also remember being at Indy watching Michael totally dominate the USGP that year only to let Rubens win at the very end- so I guess he can be a team player. I know, so much for the determination to win.

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

*4 Ferrari's "One Lap of Indy" was smarmy to say the least. Since they had suitable tires they should have ran the thing alone and gave the fans a mano y mano duel.

But noooooooooooooooo, they did their one swishy lap
and ran back to the dressing rooms.

    Re: Monaco Grand Prix

    5 incidents..

    7 times world championship

how many races again in 1 season?

Then the team dishonored the brand of Ferrari with their lack of sportsmanship.
