    not what i hope for:(

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

Do you remember what I said two weeks ago? That RS4 will be the best 4door saloon that Sport Auto ever tested!
With optional Ceramic brakes, Sport Suspension and Corsa's this car is awsome...
Ring time 8.09min is the same as BMW M6 with Corsa's! And Porsche 997 Carrera S(-20mm/LSD, PCCB) is with 8.05min not that much faster at all.
So, this Supertest proves that Nick Berry was wrong completely about Horst von Saurma! Or is von Saurma now becoming Audi guy...

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

    Aren't the Corsas optional too???

Impressive results, indeed. A good FAMILY alternative to the 997 Carrera S. One reason why Porsche puts the Panamera on the street, they badly need a high performance limousine to cover this market too. As a family father and Porsche lover, the Panamera sounds to be the right product to me. The Cayenne is great but I doubt that many people really need that much space or a SUV. So the Panamera is the best of both worlds, sportscar and family car. I just hope that Porsche can keep up with Audi in this domain but since I saw what they did with the Cayenne Turbo, I have no doubt about it. Lets just hope that the Panamera won't be heavier and much bigger than the Audi RS4.

Yes. v.Saurma also says, that the (new) Corsa's are better in the wet (which the wet-parcour time also shows), than the old ones, which were much more dry-grip orientated.

It will be exciting to see, which limousine will set the first sub-8 time!

It probably will be bigger. In my opinion they are targeting the RS6/M5/E63 range, which is more profitable. The upcoming RS6 might be the right car for you, if you can swallow its 4,90 m size.

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

The Corsas seem to actually be even better in the wet than the Michelin Cup tires. On dry pavement, the Michelin Cup tires are better but they also need more temperature to get real sticky. I heard only good things about the current (new) Pirelli Corsa generation.

Sub 8 minutes for a limousine? A tough one.

It can't be that difficult to find 9 seconds on a 22km track!

Let's wait, what the new M3 can do for us. But i guess it will only come -again- as coupe.

Well it is a German car.

BTW what happened to the Z06 test?

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

In the next issue of Sport Auto is 997 GT3 Supertest. You can expect Vette Z06 Supertest in two/three months...
Nick, you will see Vette Z06 times will be more or less in the same league as 997 Turbo or GT3...

... which is quite an achievement for half the price.

Hasn't it been always like this?

Michelin Cup are best on dry pavement but suck in the wet and the other way round in case of the Corsa?

GM still refuses to provide a test car

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

    Little comment(as previous M3 e46 owner)...

    BMW M3(e46) Sport Auto 3/2003
    Hockenheim 1.16,3min

    but...

BMW M3 Competiton Pack(or CS in UK) Sport Auto 5/2005
    Hockenheim 1.17,8min(!!!)

Driver in both cases was the same Jochen Ubler, 2003 car was with 15000km on clock and 2005 was with 2000km on clock.
Still, difference is more then strange one, IMO.
2003 example was THE FASTEST of all M3(e46) tested by Sport Auto...

Strange is understatemnt. More like And you guy's swear by Sport Auto results?

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

A bit of a diversion from the topic, but are pilot sport cup's suitable for pure street use?

on the track, it takes awhile to get them to operating temperature...

I never do any sportscar driving in the rain and want to put them on my M3...

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

Nick, "usual suspect" here is BMW, NOT Sport Auto! Why?
Sport Auto tested several M3s(e46) and all were more or less at the same level... Only this example from 2003 was a lot faster then other, specially around Hockenheim.
Rumor is that this car was with "special" tuned suspension a la M3CSL(of course all works done by BMW and they did not say any thing to Sport Auto stuff).
I owned M3(e46) and I still like this car a lot but, point here is that difference was too big! I think that blame is not on Sport Auto... But, who cares!
Since this thread is about Audi RS4 I will say that this car is amazing and really something special from Audi...
Now, try to imagine how good new R8 will be!

Did you know that the 993 Turbo was faster than the 993 Turbo S?Or that the '01 996 Carrera was slower than the '98 Carrera?

I also should mention that the driver was von Saurma and that it were the Sport Auto Supertests...oh yeah and Porsche is a German car too.

edit:Not sure if it was the 993 Turbo S.Maybe it was the 993 Turbo Workstuning.
I'm am so sure that Nick will say that this is another proof that Porsche provides Sport Auto with cars that go very well(eg 993 Turbo)...but what makes you think that Ferrari didn't give Sport Auto with "special" cars?

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

SA tested Porsche Carrera S with power kit (381 hp)

    0-100: 4.9sec
    0-200: 15.1sec

    interesting comparison to RS4
BTW I choose RS4 to new and old M3 anyway

Regarding the Turbo S. Did Porsche market the S as being slower than the base Turbo?

Why was the 98 Carrera faster than the 2001 Carrera and again did Porsche market to its loyal customer base that they were selling them a 911 that was slower than a 3 year old 911?

I do not know if Ferrari gives anyone their cars. They are not into mass marketing cars. Every car built has a buyer before it is built. I suppose Sport Auto could buy one.

So basicaly, this has nothing to do with Sport Auto and it's more Porsche's fault, right?

By "giving them a car",I mean give them the car for the test.

Moogle - Since you don't drive in the rain, it would be possible, but I don't recommend it. They don't have much grip until they reach 160F which requires either track driving or very hot weather and fast street (mountain)driving. Also, they are not so forgiving when they start to slide (very little noise and not much feedback - rather sudden breakaway).

My favorite street legal track tires for the street are the Toyo Proxes RA-1. They work much better cold, last longer, are cheaper, and are WAY more forgiving at the limit (very easy to smoothly drift, unlike the Cups).

The P Zero Corsas are appearantly very good on normal roads and even in the rain.
In the wet handling test of the Supertest, the RS4 had those P Zero Corsas and was faster than the Carrera S,which was equiped with Michelin Pilot Sport.

    Re: SportAuto Supertest: Audi RS4

So I'm guessing the M5 isnt the best Saloon in the world anymore???
