    CCM boon or bane?

    Hi all,
I am planning to include the Carbon Ceramic Brakes option (CCM)in my order for the F430 but am wondering what are the feedbacks from owners on this board who have used it in terms of maintainance, brake squeals and braking performance.

I do have the PCCB option on my C2S and it is truly awesome!

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

I can highly recommend the CCM option for the F430! Very sharp and sensitive! I understand that there are certain ways to maintain the brakes, haven't had the car for very long. Only 700miles on the odo, so I can't comment on any problems. It looks much better than the standard disks though

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

My CCM are really great, no problems so far, but I have only driven about 1500 km. Great pedal feel, no problems when wet, no strange noise, great looks and absolute stunning braking power. All you can wish for.

According to Brembo officials, rotors last the whole life of the car, if it's not tracked.

Surely they're expensive, but I think they're still worth the money. I won't order a F-car without them.

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

    Absolutely agree with Rossi!
Ceramics are almost a must of F430 but, even normal brakes are good. I tried both and decided to order F430 with ceramics. You can not do wrong with them...

Hmm...Why did you order a F430 when you prefer the gallardo?

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

you have to aware of an advisory note circulated by Ferrari Uk with regard to CCM disks. They are recommending but not insisting and it isn't in service schedule, that on 2nd set of pads the disks are changed too ! This is a Pounds12k cost in UK. I started threads on Fchat and Fcars prior to buying my CS seeking advice and consensus was that it's not necessary and no CS owners on the forums had changed disks yet.One US owner has been through 8 sets of pads and his disks are still good.
I do get sound from brakes when applying them ; it's kind of like a soft grating noise. Other UK owners describe same noise too.

It's Ferrari SPA and Porsche AG policy to suggest so.
But most clients who track their car (at least the ones I know personally) are on over 6 sets of pads and the disks are the original ones and perfectly fine.
The manufacturer is just covering himself.

I feel like RC, I am never going back to normal steel brakes.

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

If you're not tracking the car IMO the true real world benefit is there's little to no break dust so the wheels stay nice and clean Is that worth an additional 15K? Depends.

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

A friend who has a 430 with the standard brakes and tracks his car often. He claims the standard brakes do not hold up well for track work. However, for regular non track use the standard brakes are more than adequate. I have them on my 430 Spider and find them to be perfect for street use.

The drawback to the standard brakes are smallish caliper for the size of the wheel and brake dust. I must add however, not one person has noticed that my calipers are smaller.

True nick, those CCM's truely are remarkable! On my SL after a normal drive without any hard stops, the brakes are scorching! The CCM's I can still touch after a drive as they appear to be only luke warm! The no brake dust is also a great bonus to have, I can drive the living daylights out of the car and still have it look good

It's nit the size of the brakes that matters, but how you use them!

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

Gallardo(MY2006-manual) is more fun then F430F1 but, for me fun factor may be different then yours... Gallardo is much harder then F430 and on longer driving(600km or more) much more demanding, IMO. Also I like the design of F430 much more(in fact for me F430 and DB9 are two most impressive designes currently on the market). F430 F1 gearbox is also currently the best sequential on the market(much better then BMW SMGIII or Lambo's e.gear) which is an important factor for me. From my post in 997 Turbo thread you pretty much got wrong impression, I like F430F1 little bit more then Gallardo! Ideally, I would like to have both cars but, not at the moment... In the not to distant future who knows?

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

So there are more pros than cons , thanks to all for helping make my decision easier.
    Cheers

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

I had the exact same argument with the Gallardo, went to test drive the car 30 mins before I bought the 430. The Gallardo's ride is just too hard, the seats are very uncomfortable IMO - the 430's sport seats are even more comfortable than the Gallardo's normal seats. The F430's F1 tranny is also much better than the Gallardo e-gear, that was something immediately noticable! Don't you agree Kreso?

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

Mike, of course that I agree!
Gallardo e.gear is not nearly as good as F430 F1! Even SMGIII in BMW M6 is better then e.gear in Lambo. But, Gallardo(MY2006-520hp) is simply awsome as manual, the best open gate manual gearbox today! If I ever buy Gallardo it would be manual. F430 on the other hand is simply breath taking with F1! Yes, Gallardo is more macho(or men's) car then F430 for me. Even my wife said to me that she would like to drive our(she did not said yours!!) F430 when it arrives. Gallardo? If you buy it, you drive it-that was her response!
On the racetrack Gallardo is faster then F430 little bit but, who cares! Again, I must admit that I would like to have Gallardo too some day...
But, for me F430 is winner, it hits me emotionally and that is most important!
Mike, That feeling when you drive F430F1 is something truly special, I think you will agree...

    OMG!!!

I see trouble on the way...

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

How does ccm compare to pccb?

Different brands (CCM=Brembo, PCCB=SGL-Carbon), similar results.

Actually the PCCB from SGL was shown at the Brembo-stand in Frankfurt, right next to the Brembo products...

    Re: CCM boon or bane?

SO which is said to be better?
