    New Jaguar XK / XKR

    Hey all,

    I haven't seen much mention on this board about the new Aston look-alike Jaguar XK. What do you all think about it? Still a cruiser for an older generation or do you see it as a viable sportscar? I know this is aimed at the SL and 6 series customers as opposed to 997S buyers but I wanted your opinion on it

    Very nice cruiser with just hint of sports...
    Data from Test in last german AMS:
    Jaguar XK 4.2 coupe
    0-100km/h: 6.8s
    0-160km/h:15.9s
    0-200km/h:27.2s
    400m: 14.9s(156km/h)
    Max: 250km/h
    Weight: 1717kg

    And now look at the figures from BMW 650i coupe(autobox) in previous issue of AMS:

    0-100km/h: 5.3s
    0-160km/h:11.8s
    0-200km/h:18.5s

    It was not 5th Gear the other night. Tiff said it was okay, but not very fast. Okay, he said a little more but I wasn't listening to be fair. The clip might be up on http://www.finalgear.com/

    Ken Gross gave a speech about a month ago at the Saratoga Automobile Museum about the new Jag. He had just returned from South Africa, where he test drove it for two weeks. He said if was the best Jag in 40 years.!

    So it's not as good as the XK-E was.

    He never made a direct comparison, only saying the new Jag should not have reliability problems.

    Maybe not, but he also didn't say the best Jaguar EVER. Comparing with 40 years ago could only mean, in an XK-context, a comparison with the XK-E (E-Type).

    He either didn't think about what he was saying, or he made a Freudian slip and said more than he meant to.

    The new XK is quite a passable effort, but there is a lot of competition out there these days. Given a choice between a new XK or XK-E (40 years ago) or XK-120 to XK-150 (up to about almost 60 years ago) - all restored to mint condition - as a gift, I personally would not find it an easy choice to make.

    There is the new XKR-R coming out with 500hp.

    Its the model above the 420hp XKR that will be launched soon.

    I am sure that will prove to be very interesting.Its 6spd
    automatic and abundant hp and torque might give the 997TT
    a good run.

    I've seen a few of the new XK's around town and always with the top down (hey, this Miami). They are really nice to look and have a nice exhaust note. But then I saw my first coupe and I fell in love. It is a B E A U T I F U L L car. It was black with 20" rims and it meant the business. I went the next day and test drove one. I've owned a Jag before, an XJ and was dissapointed so I didn't even consider Jag when looking for a new car. But they have made some serious changes to the cars and this one is fantastic.

    OK the burl walnut dash was all fuddy duddy but one of the cars that was sold had the aluminum package interior with black leather seats and it looked great.

    It wasn't a mean car to drive. It had speed and great shifting (as much as the salesman would allow me) and believe me you got looks and ahhh's from the folks.

    I left the dealer asking myself what do I have to think about, just buy it. I held back and thought XKR.

    The XK is great especially as a GT, but add that R and I am in heaven.

    Sure, it looks like an Aston Martin DB9, but you know what, given that I think the Aston is the most beautiful car today, that's not a bad thing. And at half the price, what a bargain!

    I'm told the XKR will arrive here in the States around December. Well, Merry Christmas to me!
