So it's ok to pony up these kind of money for a RS just because it has a big wing and a fancy gearbox?

I'm not going to say an RS is worth it either, but isn't the R inferior in almost every way to the GT3 and RS, yet costs more than both?

Whether it goes up on value a lot, I don't know, but if it doesn't, then they've literally sold you less for more.

The RS is reengineered to achieve a specific goal, and as "cool" as the R is it's not a model designed with the purpose  of the RS. I understand the heritage this model entails but I agree with Nick, if it was my cash id go for the Huracan over the R.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

I don't see how R is inferior to a GT3 unless you yard stick is track time. It has the magnesium roof of the RS, and carbon fenders. It uses RS engine with a bespoke (for now) manual transmission. It is also marginally cheaper than a RS once you take the PCCB into account. Seriously it isn't priced as badly as you guys are making out to be.

exactly. i am stunned how mr preuninger's marketing charade hits home. but who am i to speak...after all i paid the same differential (coming from the 458) for the GT3 RS than what i would have paid to get a well equipped 458 speciale...Smiley 22

for the R the recipe is easy: buy it, drive it a bit and flip it.

Don't think the GTS is the ultimate drivers Porsche at all, its the ultimate daily-driveable-driver's-Porsche, but not overall driver's Porsche, any of the GT class class would be better driver's cars IMO, except they make compromises in order to atttain that that affect its daily driver car usability. The GTS just fits perfectly in that balance between the daily usage and practicality of the regular models, and the driver's sporty experience of the GT cars, and why it fits people like me like a glove but its stil a Carerra at heart, not a GT-variant. By far the ultima driver's car right now is the 911R IMO.

Indeed. Not only is the original GT4 the ultimate driver's Porsche, but it is also the very reason there is an R. Without the unimaginable success of the insanely awesome manual GT4 there would not have been a manual 911 impostor. For twice the price Porsche managed to make it as agile as the GT4. With the R you will even get aluminum wheels painted in a special aluminum color to make them look aluminum (courtesy of Porsche marketing geniuses).

I really don't understand why the can't make a GT3 (or call it what they want) with the options to delete the wing and add back the rear seats .  The R is almost perfect for my tastes. I would love one in GT Silver with no stripes.

I just hope that they'll make something like this as a regular production model one day.

Of course they can and it wouldn't cost them much, especially now that they finally developed that diffusor but I heard that they are afraid of the diehard GT model customers, who may feel offended. I think this is very wrong but... Smiley

How could they combine all these colors: brown leather, red, yellow Smiley Way too much.

BTW, reading all the comments on the rarity, value retention, value accretion etc. I can only speculate that the bubble will burst quickly... Sorry to say. This reminds me a lot of the time before 2008/09 or even the car speculation hype in the early 90s.

These cars are not limited in a narrower sense. Approx. 1000 cars... Even the GT2RS or GT3RS4.0 with far less numbers produced seem to not sell at all at the prices quoted on the Internet. Some people should really calm down, these are just current production cars. In two years time (with the then available new models) these cars will not be so desirable any longer. Desirability might come back in like 15-20 years, but in between these cars are just old and costly to maintain, even if not driven properly.

I think there is a place for both those cars, the GTS belonging to the carrera variants available cabrio or AWD as well, not as radical setup, etc, and a "GT3S" belonging to the GT variants, with four seats, no rear wing, PDK/manual, unlimited production, etc ... what the 991R should have been Smiley

Agree. The interior did not look good in real. Not at all coherent nor harmonious with all the different materials and colors. Alternatively, see it positively: You get something from every other Porsche car's interior... black leather, brown leather, chrome, black chrome, aluminium lookalike, carbon, funky black/white cloth, etc.

Any truth to the rumours that no single mass flywheel cars before September ?

In Germany, the single mass flywheel could make it to some 911 R slightly before the summer vacation. Not sure about other countries though (it could be delayed). The single mass flywheel will not be available when cars go to customers starting May/June.

    Re: OFFICIAL: 911 R (2016)

Hi everybody, i just return to Geneva and i have my car confirmed. I have a long talk with the project manager of the R it work with Andreas on his project.

The car is absolutely incredible in real its a pure 911 and i like it so much.

I have more details on the car

    - The single mass wheel have built in september/november. the disc is a motorsport parts and some settings on the chassis and gearbox. (-5kg) (all changes is made by Porsche Motorsport) different ECU (pedals response etc..)...

    - The suspension is different like a GT3 / uniball, more light construction aluminium parts etc.. (-3kg) more sports road settings

    - The carpet in the car is lightweight construction he remove the foam ( -5kg)  like RS it give a sound different inside the car (he say me our RS scream but the sound is more racing inside the R ;))

    - The car is made like a prototype in his construction ( limited specific parts) its is favorite 911 all generation, he say me drive it and call me ;)

During the discussion we speak about GT cars and say me keep both ( 991 RS and R), the RS Porsche want to produce more and with some problems ( motor...) the production is "limited" ( no numbers...)

Well, we all know that the GT4 is in fact the ultimate driver's Porsche.

from a base Boxster with 6MT to the 918 Spyder ,  each has been labeled " the best driving experience " per company man ex racer/development driver/ press ambassador Walter Rohrl at every media junket these past couple decades and you can be very sure that the telegenic successor being groomed to assume the mantle ,Mark Webber , will be similarly coached in his official comments going forward !

hindsight is 20/20 , but I personally feel  that looking back on all the 981.1 and 991.1 variations , the most " analog " model that best represented " old school " was base Boxster spec'd with base 18 inch tires, 6MT and -20mm "steel " sports suspension which yielded modest power and grip allowing maximum WOT and slip angled blasting around with " feels faster " wind in hair and wailing motor just over shoulder .....all the while still sanely under 60-80 mph on winding public roads ....impossible to drive the same way due way excessive power, grip and gearing ( 77 mph max in second gear and 105 mph max in third gear)  with the 911R on tight , playful , echoing canyon roads which abound here !
