In my country the speed limit is 100kmh and 110kmh on interstate highways, unless you live in Central Australia where there is one road that has no limit (the one they filmed the 918 going 350kmh). So really I don't think it really matters what spoiler you have at the rear. Downforce won't even come into play at that sort of speed.

In the case of an accident, Porsche would (if asked for their expertise) clearly blame aerodynamics (balance), especially if the speed was higher than 120-140 kph, you are completely right. Even at slightly lower speeds, the aerodynamics could be an issue, like the crosswinds (very strong ones) you mentioned.
I love the look of the car without that wing but I think that the front needs to be switched as well.

Removing the wing or modifying any aerodynamic element creates not only legal issues but an unpredictable car , possibly unsafe. Said that, I also love the looks of the car.

I'm not an aerodynamicist, but I would guess as well that one of the disadvantages of rear engine placement is virtually no space in the bottom rear of the car for slick airflow management, diffusers, etc. that mid-engine cars have used for some time now to gain downforce (or at least avoid lift).

911 R will have new supersensitive steering that will allow the driver to feel that he or she run over worm on the country road. It will be little bit eco-unfriendly so beware of Green party voters or supporters.
Engine will be hmm... 4.0 with little bit less power then on RS or 3.8. That makes a lot of sense since Porsche has on stock adequate number of factory refrashed 3.8 engines.
Price will be beyond good and evil.
911 R will be slower on both track and road then 991 GT3 and GT3 RS. Barely any faster then Cayman GT4 on the track. Barely any faster then 991.2 C2S on the road.
But, it will be able to (barely?!) fulfill die hard manual fans wishes and dream. At Porsche hopes that. I can already predict based on info that I got from my P source that many die hard manual fans won't be entirly happy with 911 R, for various reasons...

If you look closely it seems to have some kind of diffusor installed on the underbody (how this combines with having the engine out at the back, I have no clue).

Wow... it looks incredibly sexy! I was wondering about the rear wing delete upsetting the downforce balance as well, and did spot the diffusor thingies under the engine... I always learned though that difussors only make sens in cars that are REALLY low to the ground and have a very smooth underbody, so I'm not sure how effective this will really be, compared to a ginormous wing. Well, we'll see!
