    911 R Thread Closed

    http://www.carscoops.com/2015/10/porsche-is-allegedly-considering-retro.html

Anybody hear more on this? Not the first time this has popped up over the last few weeks.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

everything known to date is mentioned in the article I presume.

We would usually recommend saving some cash by now, but the Porsche fan-site states that the model is already sold-out. So, yeah; tough luck – but the Cayman GT4 is still available, and that one can be ordered with a manual transmission too.

I thought that all GT4's were sold out too ?

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

It appears that car is indeed coming, I've heard the rumor from within Porsche as well as from a potential customer. Really wonder what to expect though, the real 911R was a racecar, so I think we should at least expect a Motorsport engine, probably narrow body and pared back interior.

My feeling is they're going to try a modern-day Singer-like creation, beautiful materials, exclusive numbers and a price to match.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

I am trying to order one but the chances are quite slim. 918 Customers have priority. Rumours: GT3 engine, no rear fixed wing and manual. Presentation in Geneva. Priced quite above the GT3 RS.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

I have a spot in line, but almost certainly won't get an allocation nor the money to pay for it.

funny my friend's dealer said it's going to be the 4.0L RS engine.

but what do they know ha!.... they took my friend's (refundable) deposit anyway.

    if it costs the same as a stripper GT3, I will cancel/sell my GT4 as I want a manual 991 GT3.

but if it's the GTS engine as RC said, then no thank you.

    any more info/rumours please share.

Limited and exclusive with a massive price tag. Hm, I hope I am wrong, but I don't think this R is what I had in mind.

The manual is a big mistake IMHO as would be no rear seats... Still have no interest in it though as it can't touch the 612 or FF in ownership experience...

I wonder who will be stupid enough to pay for one?  as I see nothing special about it.

Talking about the 612, I almost bought one. 2005, black on black, like 6000 miles on the clock, asking CAD$138k. I was one day too late.

GTS engine with "R" badge on the trunk and a manual ? 430hp @ 1,5xx kg....Smiley is this some kind of a joke or as long as people are stupid, why not milk the cow because we at "Porsche" can Smiley

The sold out part is one of their biggest BS and lie, who the hell is interested in a manual in 2015 ? maybe myself and very few people out there, but close to 800 limited cars and sold out....Smiley

If it's not lighter than a GT4, I will proudly say, screw it and whoever was behind the idea of a rebadged GTS with a manual.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

Sports Classic sold for 201k in Germany IIRC and all units were sold out shortly after its introduction. And the SC was more of a parts bin job than this R is going to be. There will always be customers who buy these very limited cars at any price tag.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

In the US early 612 are way below $100k unless they are manual... I would look at an OTO (08 and later) if not manual...

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

I was so enamored with the 456 GT at the time and remember being disappointed when the 612 came out.  Nowadays it is the other way around, I love the 612 while I find the 456 GT to have aged unbelievably badly.

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

it will have the GT3 or RS engine.....

    Re: 911 R Thread Closed

I wonder if the talk of lightweight chassis and narrow tires means a return to manual steering rack?  I can only dream indecision

Looks like the rear decklid of the RS minus the wing?
Also different mirrors, like the ones we saw on the early RS models

it doesn't have the side air inlets, so it's maybe not the RS engine ?
