Great write up hunterone - very interesting to read.

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

    interesting info. thanks.

and yes, the c63 especially in s form is a 'special' car. it topped what the m3 used to be. even with its traction issues

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

yes i was a little bit spoiled - driven 400km the day before in my 12C on twisty mountain roads Kitzbühel - Zell am See - Großglockner - Millstättersee - Turracher Höhe - Red Bull Ring and im in love with the Trofeo Rs and spacers on my car. The understeer is mostly gone.

The cars at the AMG event were all equipped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport. As i stated before a very good tyre but naturally not comparable to the Trofeos.

I got also a co-drive in an AMG GT S Ring Taxi with 6 point belts, roll cage and GT3 seats with an pro driver and the day before we got the chance to co-drive in all the cars with the instructors. They have overdriven the cars, drifted around - was quite funny. There was also an little time trial event at the handling circuit with the a45. Ive driven the fastest time 27,57 sek out of 40 attendees. The second best was 28,20 sek.

    C 63 AMG
    C 63 AMG S

Imho the best bang for the buck in the hole AMG lineup but you need to go for the S with the mechanical slip diff. Fun on the slip pad with ESP off but on the track sometimes traction issues especially for the standard C63 in tight corners.

UK spec has mechanical LSD for C63 and electronic LSD for C63S

Interesting report. Let me guess - all three guys are getting a GT-S to drive a year for free broken heart A lot of sweet talking going down - as EnglishMannInNy says - a bit too much

I absolutely disagree with your accusations and assumptions.

So, only Porsche could (or must!?) win such comparison test?

I thought they were very positive on the Cayman GT4; just, as Lieberman said "its almost a scam; they give you a manual then gear it so high you never have to shift it...."  - in other words the high gearing, that RT members have also commented on, hurt the GT4 on the twisty roads they drove.   And I have a lot of respect for Randy Pobst as a driver who is one of the best at pointing out exactly what the cars are doing, and how he has to adjust his driving, to do a fast lap - if he was so positive on the AMG at Laguna Seca track, that says a lot.

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

Got an offer from my GT500 dealer, he has an almost new GT-S he got for himself and now he wants to sell it. He offered me a deal, taking in my GT500. I would have to pay another 65k EUR to get the car. Not sure what to do, the GT-S is certainly an interesting car, it also has another 18 months factory warranty. I love my Mustang but this is tempting, even if the dealer basically offers what I paid, nothing more. My wife is against it and I have to admit that I am actually more tempted to get an old R8 V10 Plus for "just" another 30k more.

    Decisions...

Smiley Smiley This was just a thought. I really want that R8 V10 Plus, so I won't go for the GT-S but it is an interesting offer and I had to think about it, even if I won't take it (the GT-S is a nice car but not really something I really want).

RC, getting what you paid fort the gt-500 is an offer almost not to be refused.

get the gt-s live with it for a while and then trade into the R8

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

It is indeed interesting indecision.  The GT-S is fore sure the most modern car, and the engine and its sound aren't bad either. It depends on what you're searching for. The GT-S is the german muscle car (soundwise) but very well engineered.

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

So, I would consider it. The GT-S is quite new, so prices will not drop that much I suppose ( I could be wrong). In the meantime you can look at how the prices for the R8 will develop.

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

In the UK, there is "only" a two month wait for an AMG GT (both variants) so I'm not sure a used one won't lose a sizable chunk of cash come trade-in.

Don't do that RC without test driving that car for at least a full week. If he is interested to sell it he will do that. After that you feel much better. Just keep in mind - that Shelby of yours will have a very stable value by now, that GT-S will drop significantly. Further on - that Shelby is super irrational and emotional Uber-Cool, that GT-S is a modern MB - both cars have a different market perception and image.

I thought the same, so I declined the offer. It was just a thought and an interesting choice but in the end, I never wanted the GT-S. Yes, he certainly wants to get rid of the car before the winter, he can always sell my GT500, even next year, since it cannot lose more value and he is specialized on selling this kind of car(s).

I will keep the GT500 but even if it keeps the value, it is not an easy car to sell to dealers, only to private parties. This is why I had to think twice about this offer but now I am sure I won't take it. I'd rather get a used R8 V10 Plus for little more and keep my GT500 in the process. Smiley

    wise decision.

Re: AMG GT Fil de discussion fermé

Not sure how wise this decision was but I really have a hard time putting another 65k on the table and lose the GT500 in the process. I would rather pay 30k more and get an additional car (R8 V10 Plus), a car I really want.

Right now, I don't have the 65k or the 95k really "available", so it was a pretty hypothetical question anyway. broken heart I would have made an "effort" for the R8 but I cannot see myself doing the same for a GT-S, sorry.

Nope, no car stocks for me (had Porsche for a while back in 2014, sold them though). Only tech and banks and a very small amount (under 3k EUR) in rare earths.  wink
