What a great review Carlos, thank you amigo!
I agree with you on the interior, I have a GT4 that has an almost idential setup and I also went for the smoker's package, it ads a 12V socket too. But one thing I have realised is the loss of storage for your phone. In the 997 there was that nice hole underneath the PCM to store small items, there is nothing in the new 911. Annoying as I always use my phone to chose music or place phone calls. It sits in the side pockets now. Small details but not very practical I guess.
I agree with you on the steeting, it's actually fine, until you drive the car back to back with a 997.
We had the same 997 I remember, -20mm chassis Carrera S, what a brilliant setup that was.
Do you find that the new DFI engines have become too linear compared to the 997 for example? There is more power, it's undeniable but with the old units, there was that power surge between 5500 and 7500rpm and somehow that's missing with the newer models or at least, it's not as pronounced.

Have you tried the cupholder just in case? mine happens to slide perfect into it and if I need to charge it I use the 12v outlet from the glovebox and leave the cable hanging from the bottom of it with the glovebox closed and plug it on the phone that is right in front of it on the cup holder.

I do! I liked it better than the MK-II -20mm personally, the steering was just superb.

Now that you mention it, true, the 997MK-1 had a bigger "kick" right at 5000rpm onwards

But it's true, proper member's review have always been miles better than journalist article. Real world experience and objective, I could have avoided buying quite a few italian cars if I hadn't trusted the media and maybe listened more from friends (racing pilots or Rennteamers).
Thanks Carlos for this superbe , complete , interesting and well illustrated review
Do do know know to be methodic and thorough !
The scenery looks superb with the carmin red 911 .... or is it the opposite ?
As to the size of the PDK lever, I also find it utterly ugly . Why put a shifter that looks like an old automatic one , when there is absolutely no need for it Even in the RS they put this thing !!!!
Did you now get used to driving around with the Carmin red ?
And it will be interesting to see how you like PDK in 50 or 100'000 km ....... I still have a love/hate relationship with mine

Like you and Carlos I was also a diehard manual, but contrary to you nowadays I couldn't go back to manual after last five years living with PDK. I still miss manual from time to time, but now I can say for sure I prefer much more PDK. Let's see how's Carlos will deal with it .

I love the PDK in my C4S. Fits the car perfectly. I would never change this to a manual.
The exact opposite is true for the GT4. No way I would put PDK in this car. The manual is SOOO good.

No It does not fit the car IMHO. The gearbox is too direct, analogue and mechanical. The GTS is not (since it is 99.99% the same as my C4S ).

RC:Btw: I was told to try to reset the PDK fuzzy logic and see how this works for me.
How you do that? Well, it is quite simple:1. turn on the engine, turn off A/C (and any other consumer like PCM, etc.) and let the engine run for 3 minutes.
2. turn on A/C and wait another 3 minutes.
3. turn off engine, remove the key, close the car and wait one minute.
This should do the trick (I hope).
I gave this a try in my 997 GTS - because, in sport mode, I find that PDK changes from 1st to 2nd, in auto, are often quite 'jerky'..
Result of the reset is... it works! Changes are much improved and now silky smooth!! Many thanks RC...

Futch:Yes it was the Mark 1 997, my 997 Sport Classic doens't have that kick either, I think it's DFI that killed that character a bit.
I'm sure RC or Fritz can shed some lights on this.
I'm afraid that "linear" power distribution you were talking about still exists but since you can rev the engine up to 7800 rpm, it doesn't really matter. I always have more issues adapting when I switch from my GT 500 to the GTS. For the first couple of kms, I get the feeling that the GTS lost half of it's power.

Carlos , how do you find the GTS after a couple of month ? Did you get used to the color ? ( or better , should I ask , did the people around you get used to the color :-) )
How do you find the PDK vs manual now ?

Hi Gnil!
Reaching 5000km mark now and I really like the color, still grabs too much attention for my taste, I like to be more discrete when playing with my toy, but it just looks so good in Carmine red with the balck wheels that its worth it.
Been giving some thought about the PDK, just yesterday when parking back the car in the garage I reflected on the desition of the PDK now that I have had the car a couple of months now and put on a few miles on it, and the conclusion is that I'm not missing the manual as much as I thought I would, which kind of surprised me.
Still would like to have a exact copy with manual next to it and be able grab it from time to time to use the manual tranny but overall I preffer the PDK so far. PDK is not better in everytjhing, there are some things that a PDK cannot substitute the manual in, but if you weigh in all the situations, the PDK wins overall for me for a daily 911. If I had two 911's I would have one of each but if I have only one I preffer it PDK.
Will see in a year but I was afraid that I would get tired of the PDK once the novelty would wear off and start to miss the manual and regret getting the PDK but so far I'm happy to say that is not the case. Not that I don't miss manual shift, but not as much as I thought since I thought I would get tired and bored of the PDK and that is not the case.
Part of it is the GTS exhaust sound though. Crack the window down and turn on the sport exhaust AND have it on Sport mode (you need both ON for the full exhaust and PDK experience, exhaust is different with Sport on vs off for example regarless if the sport exhaust is on) and going up and down the gears is so much fun with all the poping and gargling on retention, rapid consecutive rev matching on downshifts under hard braking, quick tone changing on lighting fast upshifts, etc... never heard a modern 911 sound so good before. If it was a regular stock Carrera I don't think I would like it half as much and perhaps miss the manual more.

Thanks . I see exactly what you mean . On my 997 I find it about 50 % + , and 50 % - . But on the improved 991 + the sports options of the GTS I can well understand that PDK gains a lot .
But still a bit surprised at your so ' strong ' and sudden attachement to PDK
I believe that with these modern PDK vs manual, we will never be 100 % on one side, or happy with one only .
When I drive my 964 , I am very happy with the manual for a few days, and after a while I find it to be so ancient and backwards that I want some modernity again . maybe if it had the gearbox of the GT4 I would talk differently ...
I must say that S-PDK is unbelievable , but also not replacing traditional manual, just something different with a different type of pleasure .

This is pretty much my conclusion too. PDK is superior and covers all situations from daily commute and long trips to sporty backroad driving and race tracks. With the different settings for automatic versus manual and normal versus sport everything is covered. A very versatile gearbox.
I was for a longer trip with the C4S today, after not having driven it for some time, and I really enjoyed the PDK gearbox. Comfy auto mode on the motorway, then manual shifting with the paddles on a few smaller roads.
But... I also know that once I get into the GT4 the manual box will offer me something in addition for the "connection" and "feeling" with the car... the fact that your learn to sense the engine's speed and car's speed to assist with the shifting enhances the experience. Then again, when stuck in a traffic queue then the clutch pedal and gear shifter feels hopelessly ancient.
So in the end, your really need both!

Just in case you are not aware of it, on the first screen ( with water, oil temperatures etc.. ) you can add a line with another parameter .
