Grant:Porsche-Jeck:No, this is just the practical speed achieved for a car like the GT4 given the length of the longest straight at my track. If I had a GT2 RS, I could go faster
O.K. now I got you - just forgot for a moment that there is only one Döttinger Höhe on the planet (unfortunately dishonoured by the stupid 250 km/h speedlimit roadsign these days). Still it was kind of extra fun couple of weeks ago to not comply with a 250 km/h speedlimit every lap during a trackday when the roadsigns were installed already but the rule not enforced yet. Each time I came around Galgenkopf I was telling myself: yeah, now I am going to do it again without getting a speeding fine for offending a 250 km/h limit - ridiculous

Yes, for the record I would optimally gear the car to go more than 225kph (or it would be miserable on the highway). If I could have total control of the gearing I would leave 6th gear alone (or even make it a little taller for cruising), make 5th gear redline around 225 kph for the track and make 2nd gear redline at around 105 to 110 kph (and pack 3rd and 4th closely in between).

vantagesc:Futch,
Other than the engine, what characteristics make you say this is a road car and not a track toy? Soft suspension? For me that is actually probably a good thing as I intend to use the car a lot on the road.
I need to rephrase what I wrote re the track usage (mostly, I actually need to drive it on a track!), it will be a very fun to drive trackday car don't worry, what I meant was that for me, I was expecting more focus from a GT Porsche.
On the road, it's supreme, on the track, I reckon it's gonna be a little bit too much of a toy rather than a weapon if you see what I mean, definitely some room for a GT4RS then, that makes sense.

You are spoiled in regards of track toys, and track time
Thanks Futch. I am actually expecting this car to have "room" above it given the price and the typical Porsche strategy of releasing an upgraded model a few years down the road. But on the road usability is important for me with this car, so to some extent your road impressions are more important to me.
I just took my dad for a spin around Zürich in the GT4 and he was grinning like a 5 year old on Christmas. Tomorrow he is flying back to Sweden, but now he insists on joining us at Nürburgring for Scuderia
He found the GT4 "a bit shaky" and "pretty loud". All in a positive meaning obviously

Great report Futch, indeed I think the GT4 is the best deal Porsche offers at the moment and it carries the true spirit of the brand imo.
Looking forward to further updates, enjoy those memorable summer drives!
Oh and that 288 , modern Ferrari's just can't compete...

I ordered the GT4 only as a fast weekend road car (991 GT3 is for the track along with 993 RSspec) so I was interested in your feedback Futch. Great stable. Ive ticked the 993RS & 968CS off the bucket list. The 288 looks like a lot of fun...

Futch has a bunch of other amazing members of the fleet that are not in the photos as well.

Looks like PTS may have stopped already... It has vanished from the UK configurator and the German configurator says
Individualfarbe Metallic. Hinweis: Bestellstopp ab dem 22.07.2015
Translated means "Note : Stop Order from 22.07.2015"

I think the factory has gone into melt down with PTS. I was told there are orders for over 60 different colours just from the UK alone on the GT cars. and it looks like it is pushing deliveries back by up to 5 months
My colour change to Light Green 253 has been accepted so I'm happy It likely won't arrive until the spring but that is perfect for me.
Someone posted this grainy photo on Rennlist of a potential GT4 RS (Manual, bigger wing, RS front vented fenders, Magnesium bubble roof, etc??). Maybe just a photoshop, but I think rears look like 21" wheels like RS also...
Anyone with knowledge think this is BS or real (Click to Enlarge)??

When the GT4 came out I was sure that we will see a GT4 RS one day, now I'm having doubts. The reason is that the GT4 is selling so well (it's actually sold out), it wouldn't make sense to develop a GT4 RS when they can simply sell out new allocations of the GT4. Then another problem I see is timing. Next year we will get the next generation Cayman/Boxster already, and a new GT4 RS based on the old design?!...I don't know...

An RS model is a great option for Porsche - much higher margin product. But I agree that timing could be tough and might mean a 981.2 debut.

The Delta Integrale is not really a track car but more suited for small and curvy country roads. I am still missing my Integrale but I never found another "good" one. Most cars on the market are crap, highly tuned/abused or, if they are OK, too expensive. You have an amazing collection, Futch...I'm proud of you.

Futch:Over 2000km now. Car is brilliant. Great fun and perfect toy on mountain roads. Driving position is perfect. Auto blip on downshift is great! Shame on me... Downsides: ratios are too long and engine is too linear.
Lovely!
Great to hear that you like it. Yeah, auto blip might not make much sense on paper, but it works brilliantly in real life. I second the long gear ratios.
Did you take it on the track yet?

Futch:Not yet no. Car will stay in France for a while so not planned.
Will you be near Dijon in October? If so, would be great to have you join us for dinner (17th) and/or track days (15th, 16th, and 18th).

A nice little reminder of what a good driver in a classic can do to keep a decent driver in a GT4 honest

Epic!
This guy is a very very very good driver. I have been following him on YouTube for some time. There is a video from Dijon where he is keeping up with a 997.1 GT3 RS in his old 993 C4. Insane!
