Re: Obtaining the pinnacle of my driving life
As some of you must have noticed in Porker's thread, we ended up in Spa on Thursday after an encounter with a pack of Belgian SWAT smurfs. I have no idea what kind of a call they got through from a member of the public, but he or she must have been desperate to nail a bunch of happy guys cruising towards their first trackday. We track on a racetrack, not on the roads!
For me the day was a double treat: First time with the GT3 on track, and first time Spa!
As I didn't know a single corner of Spa (except for the famous La Source & Eau Rouge) I took it very, very easy. Some people talked to me earlier about 'people wanting you to prove yourself in a P', but I just couldn't care less. I'm not the bloke to outrun a car on a straight and then be a driving blockade in the corners, so the moment I saw a colleague in my rearview mirror I let common sense prevail and let them pass. We were only there for an hour or so (65 EUR for an hour of Spa in the sunshine, talk about a bargain..), so I considered it to be a get-to-know-the-track experience rather than taking the P to it's limits. In any case, I need to sort out the alignment (which is quite a dreadful 'controle technique' set-up) as well as a new set of tires. At one point I went in presuming my rear tire pressure was going berserk due to constant massive oversteer, but as the read-out only showed approx 2.2 bar I got more and more convinced I need some new rubber. It's gonna be fun next time to see what these simple mods will do to the confidence and fun on track, I can't wait!
