Congrats . I did not know they have become such a ' collector ''
Prices have really inflated, especially for the more collectable models (Sport Evo, EVO 2), to a level where they're not great value anymore to be honest. But they're such cool things and so lovely to drive, I just couldn't resist.

You and Onur having so much fun at the tracks lately really makes me wish I lived in Europe and had access to a decent track. and a car to get the most out of it as well Great shot and so great to see you enjoying the CSL
Well that sums up more or less why, eventhough I'm jealous of the place you call home, I wouldn't want to switch places. As a a driving enthousiast, Western-Europe remains the best place to live...
Since the OEM backbox has had its best time (some of the welds were suffering from the heat), I've ordered a 'Supersprint Lightweight Racing'-backbox, to go with the Supersprint stepped headers, race cats and X-pipe.
It's going to be a loud bastard with this, but it's the lightest exhaust around, saving 15kgs.
@joHey: No snowmobile, I push it hard enough 2/3rd of the year, it deserves some rest once in a while.
loud...now that rings a bell. I used to have a Sharkwerks bypass muffler installed on my GT3. Terrific sound but incredibly loud. Last season I have been given at least 3 verbal warnings at the Ring. They showed me photos and measurements of 130 dB
It sounded ace though. The loudness may be O.K. for the occasional spirited drive, but it's way too loud on a circuit (most have 95 dB limit) where you are constantly in the upper rev range. Your ears almost start to bleed.
I have since retrofitted the OEM muffler, and yes, I do miss the sound of the Sharky now.

Frank,
I had SS race lightweight on my ex-E46 M3 and it weighted around 12 kg. The only problem is SS is not quality made as much as Akrapovic for example and it cracked from its weld only after 10k km.

GT3's with a muffler bypass sound immense. 130dB is really insane, I remember during last Nordschleife trackday everyone was laughing at the 132dB limit, as it would be impossible to beat.
If I were you, I'd keep it for the occasional event. Maybe an Akrapovic muffler would be something to consider?
I'm sure mine will not be THAT loud, it still has a muffler so the 'ring shouldn't be a problem. Spa also has relatively relaxed noise limitations.

Hi Onur,
I know, I'd choose Akrapovic over SS in a hartbeat, but they have no products for the E46 M3. My SS race kats have indeed cracked at their welds, it's an easy fix though if your mechanic is somewhat handy.
Was the sound bearable?

I first had SS X-pipe (just after cats and before the back box) with SS race lightweight. I didn't like the noise. It was not only loud but also sounded cheap and rice up untill 4000 rpm. Then it sounded like an Ferrari
Therefore I sold the SS X-pipe in a week and just put the back box. It sounded reasonable and complately acceptable.

The E46 M3 really doesn't have a great exhaust note, I hate that metallic rasp, it has none of that bassy, fruity 6-in-line sound you'd hope. Obviously CSL's sound gorgeous on the intake side. Let's see how it turns out in full SS-setup, if it's rice <4.000rpm, I'll just have to keep it above.

That's my only real complaint re the E46 M3. You know the E39 M5 engine probably doesn't weigh much more
Of course mating it to the SMG tranny would be a nightmare, and the induction noise on the CSL more than makes up for the exhaust note.
Exhaust is installed, I've only driven it briefly since. It's pretty loud, but the sound is much nicer than the 'rasp' you usually have on an E46 M3. It's a deeper sound, and more importantly the exhaust is 15kg lighter than the OEM-backbox. It should also gain a tiny bit hp/Nm.
Don't judge my camera skills.
A bit of hooning with the CSL, thinking of selling it, no better way to say goodbye. Absolutely love that car, brilliant in every aspect.

Why are you selling? I'd have thought the CSL would be a keeper....
Mainly a storage issue, I don't have the space to keep both toys inside. That said, I'm only letting it go at a price I feel comfortable with, I have no rush. If nobody picks it up, I'll start looking for a storage solution.
