Quite similar and will save you a lot of $$$ if you're interested in a metallic white color option...

    Dear Kreso F1,

MY-16 will be facelift for Carrera or Turbo?

    Both.

isn't it a little bit strange that Turbo facelift will be introduced next year? did Porsche decide to improve the car earlier to win the competition? will we see power improvements?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

The Turbo facelift doesn't come at the same time with the 991 Carrera facelift as far as I heard.

    So 2015...Carrera facelift...2016...Turbo facelift.

There was a rumor of an autumn 2014 991 Carrera facelift but since the new Targa hasn't introduced the facelift elements/tech, I doubt it will come this year.

As far as I heard, there won't be any major technical changes until mid 2016. It would be weird to change the exterior but leave the engine and other stuff the same. Smiley

I heard that GT3, Turbo and the upcoming GT3 RS are getting the facelift in 2016, 2015 will be the year of the Carrera (maybe excluding the Targa, still not clear).

very interesting if 991 turbo will be facelifted in 2015... a lot of 991 turbo buyers would be pissed off..... why Porsche should make them so dissapointed?

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

So, you can accept 991 Carrera FL in MY16 with new engines, new MF steering wheel etc but, you can not accept FL for 991 Turbo at the same time?

Who would want to buy 991 Turbo if you have 991.2 Carrera in offer at the same time(MY16)?

FL for 991 Turbo in autumn 2015 is fully acceptable for me.

What do Carrera and Turbo have in common again? Smiley Smiley

The Turbo was often "behind" the Carrera when it came to facelifts, this is nothing new.

Also: The new GT3 RS will have the current look, so how would GT3 RS customers feel if one year later, there is a facelift?

Same goes to GT3 customers who barely drove their car or even haven't received it yet.

    Very unlikely.

Carrera facelift is coming...Turbo and GT3 facelift...not so much.

I agree with Kreso. Porsche can't bring a Carrera facelift and then wait another year to facelift the Turbo. One would be stupid to buy a Turbo in that year. You'd be buying "the old" car. They really need to facelift the complete 991 range, not just the Carrera.

I know they've done it in the past, but I still think it's absolutely rediculous. But it seems to be something German brands like to do. BMW does it as well, just like Audi, albeit in a slightly different way (convertibles).

i just cannot understand that people would still buy a new pre-facelift Turbo, while the Carrera has had its facelift already. No matter how you call it, these are all 991. A Carrera is as much a 991 as a Turbo or a GT3 or a Targa for that matter.

Porsche does that as well... Still offering an old Turbo, while the Carrera models are a new generation. Never understood that strategy to be honest.

Smiley..... sorry, exterior . It' s slightly less bad, but still not smart to have the 'fresh' features on the cheaper cars first

I couldn't care less since the Turbo looks different than the Carrera (wider butt, rear wing, side air inlets, different rims, different front with active aero, LED lights, etc.).

This may be the reason why the 911 Turbo driver usually thinks a little bit different. When you ask them what they drive, they say 911 Turbo, not 911. For most of "us", the 911 Turbo is...a 911 Turbo, not a 911. I know this may sound weird but when you ask 911 GT3 or GT2 drivers, they usually tell you they drive a GT3 or GT2, not a 911.

You don't have to understand this but like I said before, I couldn't care less if the Carrera gets a facelift a year earlier or whatever as long as they don't transform it into a Turbo (oh well...they actually do but thats a completely different story Smiley). Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

This strategy is also how they capture more market share and keep people "trading up"... it sucks but it is what it is.  It would not surprise me in the least if the Carrera models get the facelift before the Turbo/GT3/GT2 variants.

I think, practically, that's a difficult proposition. There are 16 "911" models, which fall into 4 distinct lines,

    • Carrera
    • Carrera 4
    • Turbo
    • GT3

each one of which is quite different from the other. And that's not even splitting out the cabs.

Yepp I agree. It's their way of marketing. To me that's also the biggest problem with the 911. Too many different models.

I've said it before, but I would prefer the line-up without any S-models. Carrera, Carrera 4, Targa, Turbo, GT3, GT2. All cars with the 3.8 and at least 400hp in the Carrera/Targa models. An optional powerkit for the people that want a bit more. Save the 350hp 3.4 for the 981 to give that car more breathing space, which it deserves. Makes the performance gap between 981 to 991 50hp instead of 25....

OTOH... Who am I to say it's wrong. They're making a serious amount of profit this way. Smiley

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

I guess its just me, but I like having choices among lots of variants of the superb 911 core design. In fact, the one thing I don't like is having to buy "packages" that include something I don't care for to get something I want.

Re facelift: I have heard (from a factory certified repair shop that has to purchase factory supplied jigs and other repair tools) that there are changes coming under the skin - new lighter materials in the structural and mechanical bits. If so the surgery could include other body parts too!

Re: OFFICIAL: 991 Turbo and Turbo S

BTW, check our what is Mercedes AMG using for comparison with forthcoming AMG GT...

They are the same car. Smiley

To the vast majority they are all 911, no matter if they have a clean design or silly wings all around. Smiley
And IMHO you also can't compare facelift with modelchange. The latter is a real cut with new up to date technologies, but sometimes with a new design to which some customers first must to get used to, whereas the former is basically the same as the pre-facelift model but without the flaws of the first attempt.
