The deceased could win the 2013 Porsche Supercup posthumously, based on the points accumulated before the final event in November.
I wonder whether this turn of events would be any consolation for those left behind

I don't think so. He was young, successful and if he wasn't in that car as a passenger...what a sad fate.
If he would have killed himself, well, different story for those he left behind. At least I think so.
Really sad story, it reminds me of a friend who rode his motorcycle like a nutjob and never hurt himself but drove as a co-passenger in a car once from a disco back home because he had drank alcohol and the driver of the car crashed into a tree and killed everybody in the car. I hate driving with others at the steering wheel and I mean it.

What a tragedy, he died as a co-passenger. R.I.P., Sean.
What a terrible tragedy indeed 
I can't imagine how cruel this must be for his family, especially for his father who survived the dangerous era of F1, helped to rescue Niki Lauda's life and now this: his son suffering a fatal accident during a freaking "joy ride" serving as an instructor from the passenger seat. Fate can be cruel..

- on a related note - what is a 'co-passenger'? Either you are a driver a co-driver or a passenger. Logically a co-passenger would be a driver?

Terrible, terrible news. Was one of my favourite drivers in Carrera and Supercup. His onboard videos show his talent. Just saw him in Oschersleben a few weeks ago.
With Allan Simonsen, Maria de Villota, Eigo Sato and many other less known drivers... quite a tragic year in that respect.

Maria de Villota...so sad. She was so brave and she lost the fight...dammit.
