    2013 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup official launch...

Porsche has officially unveiled the 2013 911 GT3 Cup at the company's "Night of Champions” celebration.

Stuttgart. The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is the most successful race car in the world. Since 1998, 2,395 units of the near standard vehicle for customer sport were produced. The new edition of the 911 GT3 Cup is the motorsports version of the future 911 GT3 and as such is the first race car that is based on the seventh generation of the sports car icon from Zuffenhausen. The 911 GT3 Cup will be run exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. The car for one-make racing made its debut on the occasion of the end of motorsport season “Night of Champions” celebration at the R&D Centre in Weissach.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is powered by a 3.8-litre six-cylinder flat engine. It generates 460 hp (338 kW) at 7,500 revs, surpassing the predecessor by 10 hp. A six-speed dog-type gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport which is operated via shift paddles at the steering wheel for the first time in a Porsche brand trophy race car transmits the power to the rear axle. The single piece race wheels with centre mount were also newly designed by Porsche Motorsport. The width of the Michelin race slicks was increased by two centimetres to 27 centimetres at the front and by ten millimetres at the rear axle to now measure 31 centimetres.

A newly developed race braking system further improves the excellent endurance qualities compared to its successful predecessor. The 380 millimetre slotted and inner-vented steel brake rotors at the front axle are decelerated by six-piston aluminium fixed callipers. The rear axle features a four-piston version.

During the development of the new car a particular emphasis was put on the driver safety. A newly designed safety cage protects the pilot in case of a roll or a collision as does a newly developed race seat which is distinctively shaped around the head and shoulders and can be adjusted individually with the help of padding. A rescue hatch in the roof provides easy access for primary medical attention and for the extrication of the driver.

“The new 911 GT3 Cup is much easier to drive at the limit,” says Porsche works driver Timo Bernhard, who was significantly involved in the development of the new vehicle. “The car is excellently balanced. The new axle geometry is enormously positive for the handling. Apart from that the new Cup 911 is great fun to drive.”

Like its predecessor the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is produced in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen on the same assembly line as the road legal models. At the Motorsport Centre in Weissach it receives a general set-up for the circuit and is tested by a professional race driver before delivery to the customers. The basic price for the vehicle, which is available exclusively in white, is €181,200 plus the country-specific value added tax.

Re: 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup officially unveiled

    Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (Type 991)

The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is based on the 911 series production model – a pure-bred sports car that offers an exceptional level of power and yet our engineers were able to raise it even further. How? By fighting hard for every kilogramme saved and every kilowatt added. Thanks to the weight-optimised modular racing exhaust system, the 3.8-litre flat-six engine of the new 911 GT3 Cup now produces 338 kW (460 hp). The power of the engine is transmitted to the rear axle by a racing clutch and a newly developed Porsche six-speed sequential gearbox with mechanical slip differential. The electropneumatic paddle shift system makes gear changes even faster and more efficient.

The 911 GT3 Cup is also quicker to decelerate. Fit for endurance the newly developed race brake system performs impressively and will impress rival drivers, who can now be overtaken under braking even more frequently. The stability needed is provided by the extended wheelbase – 100 mm longer than that of the predecessor – as well as the optimised chassis.

Our motor racing history gives us an obligation to strive, not only for the next victory, but also for perfection. With the new 911 GT3 Cup, we are drawing ever closer to our goal. It remains to be seen whether our dream of creating the best race car in the world ever comes true; but one thing is certain – we have once again reinterpreted our vision of one of the most successful race cars ever

With over 2,300 sold, the 911 GT3 Cup is the undisputed number one among Porsche motorsport teams. The car competes in prestigious racing events around the globe, including various Porsche Carrera Cups, the GT3 Cup Challenges and the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. It also lines up in various GT racing series and endurance races.

Why? Because the 911 GT3 Cup has got what it takes. Specifically, we’re referring to a powerful yet extremely efficient engine and a sequential gearbox; the results of considerable development effort. Then there is the bodyshell construction which is based for the first time on a combination of aluminium and steel and boasts improvements not only in aerodynamics but also in safety – another of our primary obligations.

    Porsche six-speed sequential dog-type gearbox
    Gear ratios:
     - Ring & pinion gear 14/22 i = 1.571
     - Final drive 17/41 i = 2.412
     - 1st gear 13/41 i = 3.154
     - 2nd gear 17/40 i = 2.353
     - 3rd gear 19/36 i = 1.895
     - 4th gear 19/29 i = 1.526
     - 5th gear 24/30 i = 1.250
     - 6th gear 34/35 i = 1.029
Internal pressure-oil lubrication with active oil cooling
    Limited slip differential
    Triple-disc sintered metal race clutch
    Pneumatic paddle shift system

    COSWORTH ICD colour display
COSWORTH electrical system control unit IPS32
    Drive-by-wire system
Fire extinguishing system (extinguishing agent: gas)
Battery 12 V, 70 Ah (AGM), leakproof, placed in the co-driver footwell
    Alternator 90A
    Weight optimised fan
    Wiper with direct drive
    Lighting system:
     - Bi-xenon-headlight
     - LED daytime running light
     - LED rear lighting system and rain light

     Single-piece Porsche Design light-alloy rims with centre lock, 10.5J x 18
Michelin rain tyres; tyre size: 27/65-18

     Single-piece Porsche Design light-alloy rims with centre lock, 12J x 18
Michelin rain tyres; tyre size: 31/71-18

How is success achieved? By a show of strength, but only when this is combined with independent thought and actions. Take aluminium and steel, for example. Both materials have been used in the new 911 GT3 Cup for the first time to form a complete bodyshell. New measures have been coupled with new standards. The integral two-mount rescue device, for instance, enables faster vehicle rescue, which also reduces the risk of further damage. This is combined with a newly developed rescue hatch for the occupants to be extracted safely from the vehicle.

Our objective was to develop the best working environment possible for the most important factor in motorsport – the driver. The cockpit of the 911 GT3 Cup has therefore been refined, both functionally and formally. After all, ergonomics plays a crucial role in motor racing, too. It is a principle exemplified by a new generation of seats with fore/aft adjustment which meet all current FIA requirements, and by the racing steering wheel, which adjusts for height and reach. The most important functions are assigned to switches and are intuitive to select: from the windscreen wipers, main beam, communications radio, power locking and alarm reset to neutral and reverse gear. The switch panel on the steering wheel has a matt carbon-weave finish.

2013 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup -- Photos from Porsche’s ‘Night of Champions’ in Weissach...

At Porsche’s ‘Night of Champions’ event in Weissach, the automaker unveiled its newest generation of GT3 Cup race cars...

Of course, short of hopping onto a flight and being invited to the prestigious event, chances of seeing the live unveiling are slim. But if there was ever a vehicle that needs more photos, the 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup would be it.

Not only does the GT3 Cup give us a sneak preview of what the production GT3 model will look like, its 3.8-liter, flat-six has now been tuned to 460 hp which is 10-hp more than the outgoing race car.

The 3.8-liter powerplant is mated to a six-speed, dog-type gearbox that’s been developed by Porsche Motorsport and is operated with shift paddles found on the steering wheel. This marks the first time a Porsche-branded trophy race car will feature paddle shifters.

Newly designed, center-locking wheels adorn each corner of the 991 while the Michelin race slicks have been widened by 2 cm to 27 cm in the front, and 10 cm in the rear to a total of 31 cm. Other upgrades include a newly developed race braking system, new safety cage, new race seat, and a rescue hatch in the roof.

Teams won’t be able to get their hands on one until the 2014 season, but next year we’ll be able to see it compete in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup next season.

Enjoy photos of the 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup’s live unveiling...

Rally star Sébastien Loeb in the 2013 Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup...

Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, Two guest starts in Barcelona and Monaco, Preview

At the season-opener of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on May 12th in Barcelona, one of the most successful race drivers of the present joins the action as a guest driver: Sébastien Loeb, the nine-time rally world champion from France, races the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup for the first against Supercup specialists from 13 countries on the Circuit de Catalunya. And at round two of the attractive one-make race series as well he lines up on the grid of the Monaco street course on 26th May at the wheel of the Porsche AG entered VIP vehicle.

“The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup is a great challenge for me. We all sit in identical cars and the race is very tough due to the incredibly close competition. It’ll be very hard for me to stand up to these quick and experienced Supercup pilots, but I love such challenges,” says the 39-year-old native of Alsace, who with 77 WRC victories under his belt is the most successful rally driver ever. Barcelona marks the first race with the 460 hp Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, the racing version of the new 911 GT3 (type 991). The near-standard race vehicle is based on the seventh generation of the 911 and is run exclusively in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in 2013. Sébastien Loeb states: “I’m thrilled that Porsche has given me the opportunity to be at this debut.”

“It speaks volumes for the attractiveness of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup when world stars like Sébastien Loeb agree to make a guest appearance,” says Jonas Krauss, Manager of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. “We are pleased to have one of the most successful sportsmen of racing in our series. And it’ll give our drivers an interesting task to pit themselves against such a famous colleague.”

With the previous model of the new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Sébastien Loeb has already gained a great deal of experience – as a driver and team boss: In the Porsche Carrera Cup France, the squad of Sébastien Loeb Racing not only won the team classification, but the overall winner and the winner of the Gentlemen class also came from this outfit. Sébastien Loeb himself won both races on the demanding street circuit of Pau. This season, his team fields no less than five 911 GT3 Cup vehicles in the Carrera Cup France. He speaks very highly of Porsche’s brand trophy series: “In these races you fight hard for every metre. The boys give nothing away. Now that’s what I call pure motorsport.”

The Frenchman is not the first World Rally Champion to have contested the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. Before him such legendary pilots like Björn Waldegard, Walter Röhrl, Ari Vatanen, Stig Blomqvist and Massimo Biasion took up the challenge to compete with the 911 GT3 Cup in the flagship series of the current 20 Porsche one-make cup series worldwide.

Re: 2013 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup officially unveiled

Porsche 991 GT3 Cup with Martini Racing Stripes...

    (8 May 2013)

The famous Martini Racing stripes will once adorn a Porsche racing car, in this case the 911 GT3 Cup set to compete in this year’s Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The move coincides with the 150th anniversary of Martini and the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911. It’s the first time a Porsche will race with the livery since 2008.

The dark blue, light blue, and red stripes of the distinctive Martini Racing livery have been absent from Porsche racing cars for several years, despite the long history between the drinks maker and car company. Martini stripes first adorned a Porsche 906 in 1968; in 1971, the Porsche 917 debuted at Le Mans with the livery, and Martini Porsche cars took wins at the endurance race in 1976 and 1977. Martini Racing branched out into rallying in 1982, applying its classic stripes and colors to a Lancia 037.

There were, of course, several hints that Porsche and Martini Racing would resurrect their partnership. First we saw Walter Röhrl testing a 918 Spyder prototype on the Nürburgring with a black-and-white version of the famous graphics, and then Porsche showed official photos of the 918 Spyder wearing full-color versions of the livery.

“The resurrection of the celebrated partnership between Martini Racing and Porsche is the start of a new chapter in this legendary story,” Martini official Arnaud Meysselle said in a statement.

One Martini Porsche car will debut on May 12 at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona, driven by nine-time rally champion Sebastien Loeb. Another driver, as-yet unnamed, will take the wheel in Monza, Italy, on September 8.

Cigarettes yes. Alcohol no.  There is however a alcohol advertising ban in France, so don't expect the LMP1 to have a full Martini livery (if it has one at all).

2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup on display at Monterey...

"2014 Porsche 911 Cup Car to Debut"

The 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup racer, which will begin competition in North America next year, is the latest version of the most produced production-based race car in the world, with more than 2,500 units built since 1988. The new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is powered by a 3.8-liter, six-cylinder flat engine. It generates 460 hp at 7,500 revs, surpassing the predecessor by 10 hp. A six-speed dog-type gearbox developed by Porsche Motorsport, which is operated via shift paddles at the steering wheel for the first time in a Porsche brand trophy racecar, transmits the power to the rear axle. The new, single piece race wheels with center mount hubs were also designed by Porsche Motorsport. A newly developed race braking system further improves the excellent endurance qualities compared to its successful predecessor. The 380 millimeter slotted and inner-vented steel brake rotors at the front axle are decelerated by six-piston aluminum fixed calipers. The rear axle features a four-piston version.
