458 italia - Getting Ready For The Track
After several track events and 1 year of ownership, I realize that I had the most fun with my 458 when I'm on the track. Since we have sweet competition for lap times between 4 cars (2 458 italia, 1 Scuderia, 1 Lambo 570-SL) I decided to prepare the car for better lap times.
First I put Trofeo R tires w/stock tire sizes since the other cars are also running on them.
I search for track alignment info for 458 and was advised to lower the front of the car by 30mm and rear by 20mm from 2 different sources. 458, as other V8 models, have coilovers as stock. So the official service can lower the car on stock coilover system. I didn't want to go full lowest setting so I lowered the car by 20mm in front and by 10mm at rear.
Here is the stock front height:
Here is the new ride height:
Suprisingly, when lowered by 20mm in front, the look of the car is improved by great margin. The ride stiffness is unchanged and the new ride height in front is almost the same as stock Scuderia.
With the help of additional shims; the front camber goes to -2.2 from -0.8 and rear camber goes to -2.7 from -1.3 which are eeded for Trofeos.
I will see the results of this setup once I go to the track. We'll all see.
