Whoopsy:
I don't know, the new vette looks good on the outside, it looks really high quality. While I haven't seen one in person yet, from press photos I can already tell the beauty is only skin deep. It still has sub par plastic inside, a grade of plastic that's not even fit for making trash cans. The leather is probably a couple grade below the Korean makers also.
When the car has to be made to a tight price point, something has to give because of high labour cost, and the interior is still the favourite cutting spot for the accountants.
This is something I actually really noticed: When I rented two Corvette Convertibles for some casual fun during our LV trip, I noticed the nice body of the car, the nice sounding (and feeling) engine but the absolutely CHEAP plastic interior, absolutely incredible. Not even low class japanese cars have such a bad interior, how come??? How much can it cost to improve the interior quality? 50 bucks? 100 bucks? Talking materials here, not necessarily looks.
This seems generally to be a problem of US cars: Our Cadillac Escalade...same thing. Horrible interior. I won't even start with the drive feel and chassis setup, no wonder BMW and Mercedes have gained that much in the SUV segment in the US.
