    Maybe you didn't read (or maybe you can't read as you're from New York) what I said about the front license plate in Virginia. I put the ugly thing on because the fine is $250 for getting caught without one, and Virginia's cops are basically tax collectors, nothing more. Now, unless you're willing to promise to pay the numerous fines I'd get for going without the front license, then you're comments are worthless.

    Regarding the amber side markers, it's something I'll consider. But it's sure not a critical item. In fact, it's pretty minor when you really think about it.

    Here's a little story about loving your 997:

    I was dropping my wife to a dinner (I wasn't joining her), and I was totally focused on the driving experience.

    So she says: "Driving this car is like having sex, isn't it?" Her comment took me by surprise. I couldn't reply as I didn't know whether she was right or wrong.

    Does this absorption qualify as love? Dunno.

    Why compromise when its possible to have both Another possibility is to combine the activities....

    I must admit that the type of passion for my 997s compared to my girl-friend is on different levels... kinda love both

    I'm in love with my wife. But I'm OBSESSED with my 997!

    It's pretty much all I think about when I'm not in it. Reading forums, researching my next mod for it, making room in my schedule to detail it. I really enjoy detailing it (except for those pesky wheels!). Hec, everytime I walk past my car while in the garage I burst into "happy dance". My family thinks I've gone nuts. And the feeling I get from driving my 997.....

    I don't see myself ever tiring of the Porsche experience.

    Wow I didn't know it was that much. I was told by a few no plate outlaw the fine was only like $50. Maybe I should reconsider and install my plate.

    I've got a very good friend who knows what the Virginia cops are going after, and it's to raise money. If he hadn't told me that the day after I took delivery of the car, I would never have put on the front plate. My dealer didn't install it, instead leaving it to me. My salesman didn't know that Virginia was into the heavy enforcement of this law. Also, Virginia has gone ape with the traffic light cameras, and that is another reason why it has the cops enforcing this law.

    If the fine were only $50, I would have left the ugly thing off. Two or three $250 fines begins to put a small dent in my maintenance budget.

    Just asked my husband, "Do I love our 997?" Him, without hesitation, "Yes." Owning this car has been a dream of mine for many years and honestly it makes me smile every time I drive it -- even if in heavy LA traffic. I miss it when I go on vacation.

    Hi all,

    Don't love mine! Like it a lot though!

    To me its just a car. Admittedly a car that I spent a huge amount of money on. And that costs me a respectable proportion of my income.

    However..

    It can be replaced. It is only a simple posession. And If someone took it tomorrow the underpinnings of my life would be unaffected.

    I'm not saying that I wouldn't defend it vigorously.

    However...

    Someone points knife at me and asks for my car keys. They can have them! Its insured. And only money! And at the end of the day its only a car!

    Someone does the same where my girlfriend is the subject and I'll die first.

    Having said that .. If someone in eye sight kicked my mirrors off. Well.. Thats another story!

    So there you have it! Have I already said 'Its only a car!'

    I do love my car I think. I've had it in the shop for a few days to have some things looked at, and I miss her (sorry IT!) already... Just want to drive more and discover more I guess.

    BUT I think I am the same as the others here - if someone wanted to steal her (damn - I mean IT!) I would probably hand over the keys, whereas with a GF things would be completely different.

    So I am a bit of a P-Car fetishist, yes, but not a complete P-Car obsessive!

    Or am I?

    I went out for a two hour drive on Thursday afternoon, traveling on some of Virginia's winding country roads. The weather was great, in the high 60's (Fahrenheit - about 15 Celsius, I think), partly sunny, and I had the sunroof open on my 911S coupe. It was incredible. What a car!!!!!!!!! Every drive just reaffirms that I made the right decision in getting a Porsche 911 as I cannot imagine having as much fun in any other sports car.

    Can't agree with you more - went for a blast on some out of the way twisties near London (the B660 from Bedford for those in the know) and frankly, if I had done the same things with any other car, I'd probably be off the road. It's amazing how it tells you if it likes/doesn't like certain driving styles (change gear mid-corner = "no like" ) without putting you in the s**t for making a mistake. Deeply impressed. Braking unbelievable too - can't get over how quickly this car can slow. Very important for spirited driving styles .

    Now just need to get my driving up to the standard of the car...

    Front plates...do not like them on 997. In Ohio you have to have them...it;s the law. My 997 does not have them and I take my chances. So far I have not been picked up.

    The only bad thing about the Porsche is that it makes your daily driver feel like a crapmobile (at least mine feels that way after driving the 911). It has helped me keep within the speed limit though. After driving the 911, its like, why bother.
