    New family member

My mother needed to change cars and after 3 dark green Lexus GS it was time for a new direction .With the recent facelift to the BMW 5 Series F10 we got an amazing deal on a 2013 car produced just before the model with the new headlights went into production, a 12 thousand dollar discount on the car. We ordered it in february but just received the car today. She picked the colour and interior she wanted and is very happy about it. We went with the 520i because she only does city driving and prefers comfort over sportiness. I'll share some more pictures of the interior later since as you can imagine she's out and about driving. I won't bore you guys with a bunch of pictures since it's a pretty standard car, but nonetheless we're very happy about it and it's a phenomenal departure from the norm of buying japanese here in DR.

Ironic isn't it that she gets a new car on my birthday? It's a happy "having given birth to me" day Smiley

Of course it needed to get a drink right away.

And finally back in its new home.

    Congrats !

just a question: how come you guys picked up your new car and drove off without licence plates? Can you do that where you live? Smiley

    Re: New family member

Amazon the state department here in charge of that usually takes about a month or two to issue plates for a brand new car. So if you notice on some of the pictures taken from the back of the car you can see a temporary "plate" (a piece of adhesive paper pasted on the inside on the top right corner of the rear window) that allows the car to be driven in the streets until the real one gets issued. They call it an exhibition plate and its pretty common to see new cars driving around with them. And since we don't use front plates no need for anything there.

    Re: New family member

Many congrats to your mother. The 5 is a very good every day car. Nothing wrong to buy this series.

Many congrats to you and your mum, Enmanuel! wink

The 5series is a very good car, near perfect if you ask me and it looks astonishingly good in white, I haven't seen so many in that colour. kiss

    Re: New family member

Nice car, congrats kiss My F10 is also Alpine white and I still like it a lot.

    Re: New family member

My BMW motorcycle is Alpine White too. This colour started with the E21 3-series in the mid 70s and IMO is one of the best whites amongst automobile paints.

Did you know Porsche did an Alpine White on the 924 LeMans edition? It was more like Eskimo toilet snow white.....

    Re: New family member

Porsche had an Alpine White on the 924 and 928, but was it the same as BMW's? I don't know

The major Porsche white of that era was the Grand Prix White as on the 911s.

    Enmanuel

Congrats to you and your mother. My dd is an F10 530d m sport. Great sedan. You guys will enjoy it.

    Re: New family member

Thanks for all the nice comments guys. I like the Alpine White a lot as well it's a very "cool" white and really accentuates the lines of the car perfectly. I'm taking the car to V-Kool to get the windows tinted tomorrow afternoon so that will certainly give it some contrast and change the looks a bit. I'll post some pics of that to get your opinion on it. I know some of you don't think tinting is great but over here it serves a double purpose to keep the car from getting to hot in our weather, and for security reasons.

What about SUVs in the Dominican Republic? The 5 series is nice but it is a huge car, especially for a woman. Don't get me wrong, I had a 520d during a trip in Spain and it was a very nice car but not really small. My wife loves her X3 35d because it is not only comfortable but also very easy to maneuver through small streets, especially in the city. The higher seating position helps a lot. Would have made a wonderful car for your mother...I think. Smiley

Speaking of cars: When do you get yours, buddy? Still waiting for some nice news from youSmiley

    Re: New family member

SUVs are the norm here, roads are not great and going to the countryside they are a must. But for this case my mother doesn't like SUVs much, she says they're uncomfortable on her back so she prefers cars. Besides my father has an SUV so whenever they go to the beach or the cabin in the mountains they take that instead. The choice for the 5 was very influenced by by dad, he wanted a bigger car mostly because of comfort.

Me well, I was going to get 328 with the sport line. Dark gray, black leather, red stitching with red interior highlights and aluminum trim. They offered us a good deal if we took both but it was still a bit steep. Also it doesn't make much sense for me to buy that car right now. There are no lease deals here so I would've had to buy the car. That meant taking in a loan to pay for a part of it. I plan to going abroad next year to do my masters so tying myself to a bank loan right now wouldn't have been the best choice. So for now things are not as fun for me as they are for mom, but my turn will come soon. I expect to get something nice once I come back from my masters and don't have to worry about continued studies for a while.

My way of thinking is: Never borrow money to buy a car. In the absence of lease buy  within your cash limits.

It is better to buy a car you dream of when you the time is ripe rather than waste resources on half measures in the meantime. For example, on your way to your first Ferrari (this is your goal, I understand Smiley), better drive an honest  VW Golf  than waste money on 3 series, Mercedes C-coupe and the like. Too expensive for what they offer and they will deplete your car budget.

    Wish you the best Smiley

    Re: New family member

RC and his incredibly forward thinking with the whole leasing life-style probably cannot relate to trying to sell off the excess things that you probably never should have purchased. Never be in fear of not buying anything that you can borrow, rent, or lease.

    Re: New family member

Jeeps, if buyers could not borrow money to buy high end cars then there would possibly be no car manufacturer call Porsche,,,, and others....

    Re: New family member

Reginos I agree for the most part, I don't think debt right now is the way to go for me. Specially not for a car. That's sadly why I think that my next car won't be a BMW.
