    GT3 Ring Time

I have heared through my dealer from Porsche that the GT3 should manage 7:40-7:42 on the Ring when SportAuto does the test. I guess the Cup tyres are a main reason for that...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

7:42 is quite of a stretch in my opinion, my guess would be 7:44-7:75 if it had Pilot Sport Cups

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

If the last GT3 did 7:54 with street tires, I think the Cup tires could cut that by close to 8-10 sec alone, so I think 7:40-42 is within reason, given the additional power, better gearing, and bigger rubber of the new model...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

I don't think the difference is that big, the lighter and sportier-setup 996GT3RS with Corsas did 7:47

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

That's surprising to me. Cups were worth 3 sec to me on a track that was only 1 min 20sec long (rather slow and technical course). I guess the Ring is much different to anything I'm used to...

I do think the Cups are quite a bit faster than the Corsas though, fwiw...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

7:40 for the GT3? As long as Sport Auto and Horsey Von Supra has confirmed it...then I'm a believer.

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

I wish it was right, but that does seem a bit to good to be true...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

    My guess would be..

    GT3 7.41-7.43
    GT3RS 7.38-7.40

The Nurburgring is in altitude.Temperatures are quite low there over the whole year(don't know temperatures get higher than 20*C...).
Then there are the huge straights. The tires cool down and we know semi slicks have to be quite warm to generate maximum grip.Normal street tires are not so dependant on the temperature of the tire surface.

    That's my opinion.

i'm sure he'll love his new name!

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

BTW, first test of new GT3 will be in one month time in german Auto,Motor und Sport... YES! GT3 will be tested before new Turbo!

That makes sense. The Cups need to be 160F before they have much grip...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

Porsche says 7'49" for the 997 Turbo with street tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport) and 7'42" with the club tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport Cup)
According to the weight difference, the GT3 should be faster...

I haven't tried them myself but I have heard the same thing as well.

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

Cup's may be faster...but Zero Corsa's communicate approach to max slip angle rather better.

Cup's give little warning before letting go.

That is true. That's why I switched to Toyo RA-1's on my 73RS. They have just about as much grip as the Cups, but have WAY more gentle breakaway characteristics (makes drifting a pleasure where before it was scary).

Not to revive a beaten horse, if this is true why do so many of you question the time of the Z06 on the Ring? The Z06 has more power, less weight, performance tires and racing suspension.

Nick - the tires are the main reason people doubt the Z06's "Stock" time. It comes with run-flat tires that are known to be slow and have lousy feedback...

    Re: GT3 Ring Time

Porsche says that the 997 GT3 is 5" faster than the 996 and 9" faster than the 430 F1 driven by Walter Rohrl...
