Porsche German Alpine Road Trip - Review

Ok, we are back from Germany and a little bit Austria trip with 4 Porsche 911 rented from Avis. I don't know where to start...Germany is amazing country. People were very friendly, weather was great, amazing landscapes, food and of course BEER! wink  We started our trip in Munich and ended in Frankfurt via German Alpine Road. It was amazing week! I think I will let the pictures tell the story......

Day one: Getting the cars from Avis in Munich. Next stop - Bad Wiessee.

Day Two - Garmisch-Partenkirchen.  Alpspix - Partnachklamm.  The weather was amazing! When we got down from the Alpspix we saw rare Mercedes-Benz 300SL...and there was many more.....After visiting Partnachklamm we continued to a a local Porsche dealership. There we met a very attractive 356 and Panamera GTS (RC combo).

Many thanks for taking the time for posting, wonderful photographs! It is my ambition to do a wonderful tour like that, SWMBO would also love it, she lived in Germany for several years and keeps telling me how beautiful Bavaria, the Alps etc are. It's a must do in the next couple of years blush

That looks like an awesome ride. Very happy that it turned out as it expected for you and hope that you will visit once again in the foreseeable future. Thanks for taking the time to post these pictures.

Is there anything in retrospective that you would do differently? Rental, route, accommodation?

Hmmmm......gives me an idea. I wonder if anyone would be interested in a doing a long weekend alpine trail through the Swiss alps in our cars??

Re: Porsche German Alpine Road Trip - Review

Congrats on your wonderful trip and amazing pictures, I know some of those places and had great time there too.

Please let us know the differences you found between the 991 and 997.2!! From the pics it´s amazing how the 997.2 still looks good, in fact I was having the opposite ideia since the 991 came out, but your pictures changed my mind after seeing so many great pics of these two great models side by side.

Well. I like 991, but....after I had a chance to drive it I must confess - 997 is the last real Porsche 911 for the moment. 997 gives you a feeling of a real sports car. 991 is more like car for fun. Especially you can feel it when you're sitting inside. Lots of plastic parts, too many buttons.....and the electric hand brake was just killing me. The steering wheel in 991 is much lighter....I don't know which one I like more....The 997 steering is very hard comparing to 991, it gives you a feeling of of good car control on the road, but 991 steering is also very obedient and light(I actually liked that). 991 I drove had a PSE and sport chassis system. Must say, all the way I drove with PSE on. The sound was amazing! We got crazy about the sound of the engines while accelerating in tunnels :) Sport Chassis button were used not so often. The Sport button is a great thing as usual. The autobahn was too crowded to get crazy with the cars, but we still had a chance to enjoy them.
