Nice video, but stupid quote in the text:

"Furthermore, sales of Porsche 911s fitted with a manual, even in hardcore GT3 trim, are dwindling."

Really? (Sarcasm mode on) How many GT3s have been sold so far without manual gearboxes..... Smiley

There are two different cars in that video. One is a cup and the other may very likely be a RSR.

I know that Porsche has a two day test scheduled for Oschersleben, and furthermore Patrick Pillet was one of the factory drivers that participated in the two days of testing.

Patrick Long, Jorge Bergmeister & Marco Holzer have been working on the 991 RSR. They spent time during the Lemans break testing the new RSR which rumor has a early fall introduction.

Do you mean after LeMans?. They all raced in LeMans.

Yes , after the Lemans race

That would be awesome! I have unfortunately heard otherwise, that next year's RSR is still the 997 with a new aero package.

Next year will see the introduction of the 991 Cup car in Supercup.

Then only in 2014, will we see the 991 in Carrera Cup and the 991 RSR.

    I hope I'm wrong.

They were very upbeat when I spoke to them at Lime Rock ealrier this month.  While they for obvious reasons could not provide specifics on the 991 RSR, they did say a significant amount of their time is being focused on it's development and look for announcement/ news this fall.  The three guys were all smiles when they spoke about the 991 RSR.

The new RSR can't come too soon. Porsche cannot afford to lose another season in 2013 and introduce the new car in 2014. They are being walked over this year.

Bobr, I shall lit a candle tonight in the hope that you are right!Smiley

The current RSR is competitive with the new aero package, especially in the wet, but still, the 458 is super quick!

This is what I had also heard. However, 2014 will be filled with the LMP1 project, and I think that Porsche Motorsport would have a hard time dealing with a new 991 RSR in conjunction with the LMP1 car(s).

Given that their results this year are less than ...stellar, I would not be at all surprised if we see a 991 based RSR for 2013.

Will it solve their GT problem?....We will have to wait and see.

Do they need to launch the production cars (GT3/RS) before they introduce the GT racers?

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Possibly, but they will most likely get a waiver  in order to give them some time to launch the road cars.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Porsche will be doing two more days of testing at the "Cicuito di Adria" (northern Italy).

Maybe we can get some more footage that will clearly determine whether there is indeed a RSR amongst the "Cup" cars.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

The only confirmed car for 2013 is the Cup car in the Supercup series.

Has a car ever been introduced in the middle of a season? That could be what will happen if the RSR is ready soon enough?

In any case, it'll take some time to be really competitive. Remember the 1st season of the 458 GT2? Mediocre. And now it's a killer.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

That is what I have also heard.

I dont recall a car introduced in the middle of the season. What generally happens is that there are sometimes press releases issued at the end of a season referent to a new car for the following season.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

The current RSR was certainly competitive this month in the ALMS races at Lime Rock & Mossport. I attribute some of this success to Jorg Bergmeister & Patrick Long driving skills. They would have had two wins but for the unfortunate issue with the air filter coming loose at Mossport. The #17 Falken Tire car showed some quickness, but they have had tire issue that should be resolved with new tires at Mid-Ohio. The 458s of Extreme Motor Sport are coming on strong in the post Lemans Break ALMS races. I look for them to be on the Podium again. Back to the topic at hand lets keep our fingers crossed and candles burning for  991 RSR intro this fall. Smiley

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Bobr - The current RSR is only competitive because it has received huge performance breaks. Porsche have been allowed to increase the height of the rear wing, increase the size of the front spoiler and have had a air restrictor break.

It is so sad to see that Porsche need performance breaks on their cars to keep up with the opposition (in this case the 458). In the past, the 911 was the bench-mark. It no longer has that position, and is struggling to keep up with the rest.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Syperidol...It's an aging platform whose refresh cycle is unfortunately  tied to the high volume 911 production car. One might say Ferrari has an advantage because with the higher price point and smaller volumes of their cars, they have shorter refresh cyle times. However, the 458 has only become really competitive this year in the ALMS which has taken almost two years of post introduction race development.  I believe the 458 was also given an air restricor break in the ALMS series this year. The Porsche works drivers indicated one of their development goals is to have a competitive car when it is rolled out and not follow Ferrari's approach.,

I was told by one of the factory drivers that 2013 they will be drving 991 RSR. Cant name driver though.

No restrictor break for the 458. In fact, it is the only car in both the ALMS and the WEC that has no restrictor break. The 458 has taken the place of the 911. It is now the bench-mark.

You are correct about all the reasons that the 911 is struggling, but it was in Porsche’s hands to have foreseen this situation and they choose not to address it by coming up with a suitable solution.

In my opinion, the longer they take to come up with a suitable business model for a V8 mid-engined car (all the opposition have V8’s), the longer we will see an iteration in some form or another of a 911 struggling to keep up with the opposition.(under the current set of rules).

Although I most sincerely hope that the 991 RSR will be a viable solution, deep down inside I have some very strong doubts.

Unless, Porsche manage to change the Turbo rules so as their 991 Turbos are competitive with the V8s.

Yes, ...and in such a way that the V8 will not be allowed to be turbo'd, otherwise we are back to square one.

    Hi all!

When Christophorus 357 will be published (including the new C4 models) ?

... or generally spoken : when in the month does a new issue appear?

I believe IMSA - compettition bulletin #12-18-Revised gave Extreme Motorsports (458)  a +.6 restrictor adjustment prior to Lime Rock ALMS race.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the bulletin (at work). I will investigate this evening. That is very strange and I'll get back to you on this.

P.S is there anyway you can uplaod the bulletin?

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Ok - I have manged to get the bulletin: It was for only one team. Not for all 458's.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

It can get pretty confusing at times. I heard it in conversations at ESM  Padock at Lime Rock, but just verified it on IMSA.

Re: 991 spyshots thread (continued) (for UNRELEASED models only) Thread Closed

Yup ESM got a restrictor break, but it team based, supposedly cause of poorer(non factory drivers) as compared to all the other teams....

As for mid season development/introduction...Ferrari introduced a rehomologated 430 at the end of the 2009, they changed from the smaller restrictor 1150kg car to a larger restrictor 1250 car...

Damn... just got information that Christophorus 357 - and beside this the release informations of C4 - delayed until end of August yes
