Oil Change Carrera 2006 4S X51 pack

I only drive my car about 1500 miles per year (not my daily driver). In the owner's manual it recommends changing oil every 10,000 miles or every 2 years. In subsequent years, Porsche is recommending oil change yearly. Don't know if this was pressure from the dealers or it was because of issues with less frequent oil change.

My dealership bugs me every year to change the oil, but do I really need to? So far I have, but I'm having second thoughts.

What do you think?

I don't do enough mileage so I change the engine oil in my car every 2 years.

IMHO, fresh oil saves you from so many potential problems (e.g., IMS failure on the M96 engines) that it is worth changing it even more frequently than the 10000miles/1-year recommendation. I would halve those intervals and not spare the expense. This, in combination with making an effort to drive the car as frequently as possible - even if only for half an hour, till it gets all nice and warm :)

My 2-cents only, of course, as I am not a mechanic.

Even with the possibility that oil degrades over time even without sufficient mileage, I would change it annually.

The cost is not that huge anyway. It does no harm and possibly a lot of good.

For example, I service my motorcycle annually even though i don't cover the recommended maximum mileage for service.

I agree - I don't think that, with fully synthetic oil such as Mobil 1, it's necessary to change more often than that.

Modern oils are really marvels of engineering and I wouldn't worry about that interval, however I would be worried about not using you Pcar more often!

Seals, bearings etc are not well lubricated if the car is seldom operated.

"Garage Queens", ar4e sometimes very problematic due to lack of use.

I change my oil annually, typically approx 6000 mile intervals. I recently took a sample of my oil and sent it out for analysis. At 29,500 miles I was curious to see if any contaminants were present in my oil such as metal from the dreaded IMS bearing or perhaps antifreeze etc..Fortunately, my sample was given positive reviews on all criteria measured by the testing Lab. Good news as well as some added "peace of mind" for my trusty 2006 Carrera Coupe.
