2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

So, the big question ... is Ferrari able to sustain the battle with RBR?

The BBC's Mark Hughes thinks so ... here is his very insightful analysis ...

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/formula_one/14116406.stm

And the off-throttle exhaust gas blown diffuser issue has reverted back to Valencia specification ... it is legal again till the end of the 2011 season.

Meanwhile McLaren is in trouble ... they need a very strong race to remain in contention ... too many mistakes at Silverstone ...

If these happen again at the Nuerburgring, many will be calling for heads to roll at McLaren ... Button will be keen to score some points after his wheel incident ...

I wonder whether Webber can put the disappointment of Silverstone behind him ...

I continue to be impressed by Di Resta and Perez ... two rookies who look like they really belong in F1 Smiley

Yes, great slate of rookies this year, fun to watch. I'm hoping McClaren can bounce back, terrible, unnecessary gaffes at Silverstone. The lads deserve better!

But it was great not to have to watch another RBR parade like Valencia. Hope Germany is as exciting as Montreal and Silverstone.

The phone-hacking scandal could end News Corporation's hopes of buying the commercial rights to F1 from the banks and private equity firms that own F1, sidelining Bernie Ecclestone.

Also, Bernie has Channel 5 as a possible backup if the BBC drops its coverage of F1.

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

What a first practice session. Buemi been really lucky as he got out with 200 km/h.

Schumi did the same and could in the same time wave the croud. Well let's see this afternoon. The are some rumors that Massa might not be driving for the scuderia next sesson.

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

Jarno Trulli expected to remain at Team Lotus in 2012 ... then why let Chandok drive the car at the Nuerburgring and, one assumes, at the inaugural Indian GP?

I would let Chandok drive in Friday 1st Practice every race weekend but that's it.

Trulli has underperformed (according to him) due to a power steering problem ... Team Lotus has installed a whole new power steering system to resolve this ... so they should now give the guy a chance to score as many points as he can.

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

Fascinating ... Lotus Renault is ditching the forward facing exhaust that they started the 2011 season with.

They had described it as being at the 'brave end of brave'.

Now they too are using a rearward facing exhaust like RBR.

But this is all just for 2011. This will become illegal in 2012.

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

Not so easy for SV these last two races when his car is not twice as fast as the rest... two bad it wasn't like this (the cars more even) since the beginning of the season, now he was able to rack up such a lead with his advantage that the season is already over.

Also great to see Webber on the podium and even ahead of Vettel, this will give him more spirits. Hamilton did a perfect race, acually perfect weekend from start to finish without any drama, its about time.

Awesome race, really enjoyed it. Lot's of great overtakes and an awesome between the top 3 throughout the race.

Well done to Lewis, especially for his qualification lap!

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

Great race from start to finish! Hamilton really drove superbly ... what did they do to his car?!!  Not even he seemed to know. But he deserved this win, a perfect drive.

Poor Jens, let down by the car again, just when he was starting to look like he might make a move.

What's with Webber and starts off the line? He always seems to bog down and lose the edge, just when he needs it.

Great to see it becoming competitive again. No disrespect to RBR but from a fans point of view, who really want to watch a Red Bull parade from start to finish?

Re: 2011 German F1 Grand Prix at the Nuerburgring

Webber did all he could. It sounds like the car, not him, bogged off the line. If you listen to the start from the RBR camera feed you heard his revs slowly dropping before the lights went out. Everything after that was pit strategy because he ran an error free race.

But these losses of pole to a non-win finish is getting tiring.

Vettel appears to have had rear brake issues because the technicians radioed in that he needed to dial the bias all the way forward.

Schumacher, uncharacteristic error cost him what would have maybe been a 6th place finish they way he was gobbling up positions.

Massa, more ho hum. He's very fortunate to keep his Ferrari seat.

Button, puzzled at his Qualifying performance. Let down by his machine in the race.
