    Vibration at 2800 rpm... normal?

     During the long drive home (TN) from Destin, and the car now having done a total of some 650 miles, I noticed that there is a noticeable increase in vibration at around 2800 rpm. This eases out as the rpm increases above 3200 rpm. Is the vibration normal in GT3's ? Could this be due to the fact that the car is still being run in and new? 

    BTW, I've been meticulously following the recommended running in procedures and not going anywhere near 4000 revs etc.

    Any info on the above issue appreciated.

    i assume you refer to driveline vibration ? does it emanate from front, mid or rear of the car ?

    i assume you refer to driveline vibration ? does it emanate from front, mid or rear of the car ?

     Hmmm...it's more rear/mid.

    The GT3 doesn't carry nearly as much insulation as the Carrera.  I think what's happening is the engine exhaust note is resonating with certain sheet metal parts which results in a mild vibration.  If the body was fitted with thick insulating pads, it wouldn't be so noticeable.

     When I drove it somewhat spiritedly today the vibration had gone! Hmm I wonder whether the vibration was  somewhat caused by the horrible road surface I was driving on.

    in my gt2 i sometimes get a little clutch vibration especially when reversing......

    on my turbo i had some rear end vibration too. kept balancing the rear wheels a few times and it still did not go away.

    i then changed the rear tires and it was gone. seems i caught a bad tire.

     Thanks. I think the tire may have been an issue especially as the car had only done a few miles at the time and the tires may have been settling in... if such a thing is possible.

    The vibration was not noticeable when I drove it yesterday.

    I get small vibrations like that from time to time in my GT3, the seem to come and go.  I think it's like what Greentree was saying the engine note is just causing a few things to vibrate and prob nothing serious. :) small price to pay for such a fun car!  Although my baby is at the dealer now for excessive brake squeeking! :(

    I was out for some spirited driving yesterday.  I set the suspension to "firm".  Returning back to town I forgot to reset the suspension to normal.  I went across some railroad tracks and "Holy Toledo".  I'm still picking up my tooth fillings!

    If the "vibration" is at 2800 rpm in any gear, then it's coming from the drivetrain incl the differential,motor , exhaust system, esp if it's more like a resonant booming with the windows rolled up , on a smooth road . If its a certain speed, then  it's prob in the suspension : front end you'll feel in the st wheel, rear end will give a buzz in the seat of the pants .

    MKW, that is really helpful. Although I felt no vibration yesterday, I wasn't going at 2800rpm consistently. I'll check it again and try to determine whats going on... if anything.
