    The interior on the E39 model was just so much nicer IMHO than the current E60 version which looks somewhat clinical and sparse in comparison.

     Thanks for the pictures. Time passes quickly, but it has not improved the M5 from the original in spirit even if the technology has moved forward. The E34 was my favorite.

    Seeing the pictures of the old cars makes me sentimental. This have been real driving machines - very demanding, not to easy to handle!

    The e28 M5 was advanced for the time, but unrefined in the sense that you need more awareness to drive it at the limit than you would a newer car due to driving aids and SMG etc. While the new cars are fun to drive, you would still find a lot of joy in driving older car like the original M5, the 993's and the like. It seems the character you find in old cars has been engineered right out of them nowadays.  I love the e39 myself.
