997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

What could it be?  i cannot get above 1.1 -1.2 bar in 2nd before i use to get 1.4 bar at 4500+ rpms , 3rd boost is 1.1 , 1.2 all the way to the limiter , 4th the same but goes to 1.2 - 1.3 briefly.....  all of this happend a sudden after  did a 0-300 run .. at first i though it was iats , so i let the car cool down... but the ambient was 25 degrees!!!  and my car was hitting 4000+ to the limiter on 2nd 3rd 4th 5th and 6th 15 minutes before the run!!!

This  morning i tried the car and it still has the same problem i took it to the dealer they did a quick check on the hoses and did an obd scan and no problem!!

i thought maybe because maybe the gas station attendant filled my tank with the wrong gas 90 octane europe!!  so i filled the car with 97 octane and ran it for 60 kilometers hoping the problem would dissapear but it didnt..

    what could it be?

    humidity ?

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

No it wasnt humid at all , it just switched into a limp mode and still is in a limp mode the day after  , a stock tt would smoke it!!!

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

strange....on the 997 turbo there was a recall campaign for sticking valves on the turbos.

have not heard of issues with the gt2 however.

    maybe you wanna check that......

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

check AFR meters and also the dump valves. They are rubber and can develop small tears. Also someone must check whether there is a small leak in the air system; there is a tool for that. Problem is that the above issues usually don't show on the obd unless there is total failure.. So you need an experienced mechanic to check all those peripherals

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

I have the same problem with my GT2 too but it cures itself somehow.........

    what's wrong with the car?

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

I had that happen to my 997 TT and found that the turbo hoses had come loose... the clamps have been known to be dodgy. The dealer replaced the hoses and the clamp.

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

I had a total loss of turbo boost pressure last week. Now I know how the GT2 would drive without any turbo charges - not funny, I can tell you Smiley

After I re-started the car the next morning everthing was back to normal function. Maybe an electronic issue Smiley

Indeed Smiley I can tell you - I could not believe how big the effect of these two "little" turbo chargers is... At low speeds (in town) the car feels quite normal. But above 120kph you get the impression of driving a 120hp car Smiley

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

so guys, how was the problem fixed?

I'm experiencing the EXACT same problem and its driving me crazy. Took the car to the dealer and they couldn't find anything (no leaks, checked the pipes, o2 sensors) nothing...

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

    HI Guys,

I had an issue on my 997.2 TT, when I was overtaking a car and all of a sudden my boost just went. The car becomes so slow without those chargers it's insane.  The issue was a loose hose connector and it happened with two other turbos in Lebanon as well.  I had that same issue with the connector coming loose 3 times over my 4 years of ownership.

The intercooler to turbo hoses went through phases where 1) the fast coupling would come undone or 2) the actual reinforced rubber hose would rupture, but the causes of these faults were easy to spot from under the car.

@ Ammein: Did the workshop check that the VTG actuators had not seized up? They should have seen it, if it has. They can sometimes be freed by spraying them with WD40, if there is no mechanical damage yet.

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

Turbo boost valve goes bad and leaks over time.  This causes extra lag time and much reduced boost. Cheap repair. EVOlution Motorsport sell an upgraded part for a couple hundred bucks. Works like a charm and it's like new after the replacement.

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

The workshop checked the intercooler pipes and they carried out a pressure test for all pipes but all was okay. They also checked the o2 sensors and was working fine. I must say the local dealer here is very good, especially their workshop manager. After digging in from posts with the similar problem I've noticed that I couldn't find a proper answer to this problem as their can be many factors and its very sensitive and hard to find the cause.

@frtiz @Leawood911 taking note of your comments I'll ask the local dealer to check them.

Also would it help if I carry a 100-200 km/h test and compare the times my car get compared to what it should get (7.7 secs) or is it still supposed to give me 1.4 bar ? (Considering the weather is still the same as it used to be before the problem occurred)

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

Certainly check. I had the same symptoms and the car is like new again. Ripped right through a set of rear tires in two months as proof.

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

I checked the 100-200 km/h (not by vbox; I was reading the speed from the speed cluster on the left and using the chrono on most runs and also the iPhone stopwatch). Ofcourse its not 100% accurate but on all the runs (done just over 10 runs) I was getting 7 to 7.2 secs max over and over again.

On the runs I was doing with the iPhone stopwatch I had the display on bar. Third gear was 1.3 bar and on some runs I was getting 1.4 bar at around 5500-6500 rpm.

Is the car performing better than it should, is it performing just as it should and the lower temperature here (it was varying between 18 to 21 degrees celsius when I was doing the runs at night) fuel was 98 RON

Let me know what you guys think..

Re: 997 GT2 Loss of boost pressure

I've only just read the original post in this thread. I initially thought you were complaining of a complete loss of boost pressure, as described by MKSGR in his post, but I now think you are probably just experiencing a drop off in boost due to the effects of your warm climate.
