    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    Alex_997TT:

I just posted this on another forum but I thought I'd summarize here too:

With regards to what will be new, from my understanding it will be:

    • Probably deletion of sports chrono clock

Is this from a good source?  As far as I can tell, it hasn't filtered down to the lesser 997/987 MY10 cars (unfortunately).  But perhaps I haven't looked hard enoughSmiley

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Sorry that one should have been a maybe. Probably wishful thinking caused a Freudian slip! I have no source I am just summarizing from all that I have read on web boards in the last year, from spy pics, from PDK variant limits, and from what's on the already released facelifts models.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

why are there no info on 997.2 Turbo if it's late June already now?

as far as I understand MY2010 will start from September and it's now time to start taking orders for September production. Will it be MY2011 may be and we should not wait for it this year?

Or may be it is delayed due to crisis? our due to the fact that Porsche needs to improve the car much more than it's planed initially to be better than GTR?

My thoughts exactly. Current crisis and problems with VW-takeover could be other reasons.

There might also be unsold cars at dealers, especially USA.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

But they HAVE to introduce it no later than late July

or it will be ridiculous, wont it?

I hope to see the exact specs soon to make a decision - to go for 911TT or GT3.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

OK, little bit more info(facts directly taken from one P memo)....

    997.2 Turbo intro November 2009

    3.8L

    Manual and PDK

    500ps

    0-100km/h: 3.5s PDK

    997.2 Turbo S intro March 2010

    3.8L

    PDK ONLY

    530ps

    0-100km/h: 3.4s

Exterior wise minor changes-new rear lights, front almost unchanged except new lights and leds with different function. Both versions are with same engine-just different output. Turbo S seriously more expensive with PCCBs as example in standard equipment.

PDK good for up to 790Nm. Car will be very tuner unfriendly(specially with PDK). According to my source 500ps Turbo is much, much faster on the autobahn then current one or Nissan GT-R. Track wise? He only said-current 997.2 GT3 level.

Engine? Let me ask you just one question? Is it new 3800ccm DFI biturbo or 3797ccm GT1 based block(without DFI and with uprated VTGs)? Keep in Mind that PDK is here BUT.... I know the answer. I simply can not post it yet. Be patient...

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

So no DFI but upgraded VTGs? Oh please let it be a GT1 block!

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    I hope no dfi ...

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

Good...and hope for a NON DFI engine too

    also, Turbo S with 530Hp is a hint for a Gt2 MKII !??!?

"front almost unchanged except new lights and leds with different function "

Not sure about this,ok new directional lights, but led in front seems to have same function as nowSmiley

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

KresoF1, thanks a lot for the info

Did you mean with your last question that it will be GT1 block with PDK ? die they somehow managed to unite them?

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

KresoF1, don't you know if the price for 997.2 will be much higher than for 997.1?

I am sure that if in this application the engine NEEDS  to be the GT1 based, then Porsche won't release the car without it.

If the new Turbo is finally released with the DFI engine then this means that the new engine will be 100% strong and reliable in this application too.

They never cut corners in Weissach and I wouldn't  worry at all.

790Nm?!  So the PDK supplier must have brought out a third variant.

If the whole car is very tuner unfriendly then even a Stage II kit (exhaust + ecu remap) would still be a problem for PDK.

If it is tuner unfriendly then it really doesn't matter if the engine is GT1 or A91 as I am sure Porsche will allow for the power they put in the car.  The GT1 engine only comes into it's own if you want to aftermarket tune your car.

Plus a 997.2 530PS Turbo S would still be slower than a 997.1 Turbo with an aftermarket Stage II (approx 550PS).  You would however get to keep your warranty!

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

I would hope a 997.2 TTS PDK would kill any stage 2 tuner job, straight line and track performance...

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

I am sure than 997.2 TTS will be faster than 997.1 TT Stage 1 & 2...

    PDK makes sense:-)

Good luck beating my CG544 Stage II in a straight line or around a track!

    CG544 SportsAuto results:

If a Turbo S can achieve this even with PDK (at least 30kg heavier) then fair play to Porsche.

The aftermarket kits do have the advantage of swapping the exhaust from a 600 cell to a 200 or even 100 cell, meaning much less back pressure and less lag.  Porsche can't do this as they have emissions standards to achieve.

So to beat a Stage II then Porsche's only option is to make the car much lighter IMHO or put in more than 550bhp.

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    Alex_997TT,

how fast could be 997.2 TTS with high-flow cats (100)?

to delete cats isn't that difficult and it's not a problem to make this and don't hurt the PDK

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

    KresoF1:

    I think answers your question.

This either means Porsche are building in extra security into the ECU, or the engine/transmission won't be as strong as current car so tuning is ill-advised.  Or both!

So I am sure you will still be able to modify the next gen Turbo's but the risks for me at least would now outweigh the pluses.

-also, deleting cats is not much good if you then can't retune the ECU to take advantage of it, which is not just about Porsche making it difficult to remap but if you do then you would be perilously close to that 790Nm torque limit for PDK (and the manual transmission).

Well, 550hp vs 530hp, I would hope the PDK would help close the gap for equal straight line.

As far as track, a better PTM and car setup can do much more than closing the 20hp gap...

So overall a faster 997.2 TTS vs 997.1 stage 2

    Re: 997.2 Turbo info thread

...some better than 'bottom of the range' (aka stock) Bilstein's may help that also...

WIll be interesting to see what Porsche spend all the savings on if they use a A91 engine instead of a more expensive GT1 engine - upgraded suspension would be a very good use of that extra cash!

I think there is currently enough info here... BTW, you asked about price? It will be about 3%-5% more expensive in Germany then 997.1 Turbo.

it is interesting to understand how fast will be 997.2 turbo in acceleration?
