    Porsche Club GB 997 register run today [PICS]

    I organized a little spin through the UK countryside today for the Porsche Club 997 register. 

    Weather turned nasty over the last few days so I was pretty worried it would be rained off.  Luckily the weather held and great fun was had by all.

    A few pics...

    Meeting up in the morning at OPC Reading where they kindly hosted us with teas/coffees/pastries

    A good turnout we had 5 Turbos, 2 C2S (including a facelift), and 2 C4S

    I was amazed at how good some of the roads are in my area once I started going out to explore new routes.  

    Thanks to all who came and made the day most enjoyable

    I am hoping to repeat the trip later in the summer with all Rennteamers welcome...

    England seems made for such outings, fantastic countryside, which appears to be cop-proof, and quaint little towns.

    Sadly I am not going to put video footage of myself or others doing 'spirited driving' on the internet.  That would be rather silly of me!

    You are right about the countryside though.  When the weather is nice, the UK is a fantastic place to go out for a drive.  You have to do your research though to find quiet deserted national speed limit (60mph) back roads given how over-populated this country is now.

    Also, given we are rapidly becoming more and more of a 'big-brother' society, I can't see this freedom we have now lasting for much longer.  Soon all cars will be tracked by GPS and if you ever go over 50mph you will be locked up!

    PS: we don't get many crazy coloured 997s apart from the GT3 gang, and they tend to stick to their own 'track day' cliques within the Porsche Club GB.

    The video was more for the scenery than breakneck speeds, but even so a piece of cardboard over the instruments would solve any possible liability.

    I remember some nice roads out near waddesdon manor ne of oxford.

    I do have a video mount for the car, I might go out on a lazy run at some point.  I am pretty sure the Police can calculate your speed from the video without seeing your speedo though.

    Plus I could also be charged with 'dangerous driving', speed independent.  Not that I drive in a dangerous fashion, but all these things are subjective and I wouldn't want to take the chance.

    Big-brother watches us enough without giving him extra footage!!
