    Has anyone determined yet if the Order Guide is misprinted on the DRY SUMP question?

     

    Specifically, it states: DRY SUMP with EXTERNAL TANK.....yet all other press and rumor info says new power plant, DFI, etc.  Could they have a few tricks up their sleeve still?

    Yes, it the same as the 996/997.1 basic system but with more/improved oil pumps for optimum lubrication at all times.

    That's why Porsche specify Cup/Corsa tyres for the 997.2 whereas on the 997.1 and before these tyres were not officially endorsed (fear of oil starvation at high g-forces) except on the GT1-engined models.

    An explanation of the revised/improved system is described below (from Porsche publication)

    "The oil circuit on the new power units follows the principle of integrated dry sump lubrication
    and is made up of a complex system incorporating four intake and, for the first time, one
    electronically controlled pressure oil pump operating on demand.
    Engine management adjusts the supply of oil at all times to current requirements by means
    of a gear moved hydraulically in axial direction, in the process changing the width of the
    section in mesh and, accordingly, the geometric volume of the gearset on the oil pump. As
    a result, the oil pump does not consume more energy than required and at the same time
    ensures appropriate lubrication geared in all cases to current conditions.
    The compressed oil pump runs on a shaft with the four suction pumps in the vicinity of the
    oil sump and is driven by a chain directly from the crankshaft. Two suction pumps extract
    oil from each of the two cylinder heads and feed it to the oil sump where a new baffle plate
    largely separates the crankcase and the oil sump from one another to reduce splash losses
    in the crankcase as well as the formation of oil foam in the sump. The reduction of friction
    also ensured in this way increases engine output, while the reduction of oil foam ensures a
    reliable supply of oil even under the most extreme conditions."

    I checked out the Order guide for the 2010 TT and found out that the Thicker Steering wheel (XPA IIRC) is missing. Does that mean deviated stitching on the wheel would be hard to find for 2010? And is that the final spec list/ordering guide?

    I think the thickness of the steering wheel has nothing to do with the colour of the stiching. Could it be, that the thicker steering wheel has become standard now? If I remember correctly that has been the case when they swapped from 997.1 to 997.2.

    Thanks for the welcome! I do believe that the wheel has become thicker , but in order to get deviated stitching on the wheel , XPA had to be taken. I ask this because I wish to place an order for one, but couldn't find XPA as an option.
