    Dynamic Engine Mount...

I'm full of questions today, sorry. But I think quite a few people are looking at putting in an order for a GT3 so a number of people might be considering this option. Here goes...

From what I've read, it can go soft or hard as the situation demands and that's all very well...

But does anyone know how hard the standard 997.2 GT3 engine mount is in relation to the dynamic engine mount?

If the 'dynamic' mount has a 'hard' and a 'soft' states, then if the stocker is always the same as the 'hard' state then its job is only to increase ride comfort - something many GT3 buyers can do without, IMO.

If the stock mounts are the same as the 'soft' state, however, it could be interesting to see how well it works....

If the thing has a range of stiffness then any info as to how it compares to the standard mount would be great.

Anyone with any info on this?

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

From what i have read the GT3 uses the stock mounts as fitted to the Carrera (however i might be proved wrong in a minute). The cup cars have the engine bolted directly to the body shell, therefore they rattle a lot and are not very 'daily driver' friendly. The dynamic mounts are designed to give the best of both worlds. I have also read that they can differ from 2CM to 2MM of movement depending on the driving style

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

With the dynamic engine mount, the car/chassis gets much noisier and slightly less comfortable, you have to be aware of it, especially if you want to use it mainly for street usage.

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

Sorry, did you mean "With" the dynamic engine mounts it gets noiser and less comfortable or is there a with/without typo in your post??  I was very much under the impression the dynamic mounts made it less noisy and more comfortable for everyday use?

If you did mean what you put could you please care to elaborate on why that it is so?

    Cheers

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

The dynamic engine mounts stiffen according to load... When you drive the car hard (i.e track, spirited driving) they stiffen to reduce engine movement. This improves the feel of the car in changing direction but would obviously give a noisier, less comfortable ride as more of the engine vibration makes its way to the chassis (engine movement is reduced to 1.8mm per Porsche)- similar effect to solid mounts in race cars.

When you are cruising casually, the mounts remain soft and cushion the effects of the engine on the chassis- therefore more comfortable ride but also a lot more engine movement. Not having the dynamic mounts (ie.standard mounts) would be similar to the soft setting also....

    Hope this helps...

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

It does indeed thank you. I shall be omitting them from my "lux" spec in that case.

    Cheers.

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

It sounds like it's a very cool option.  I would get it.

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

For a street car, its probably one more mechanical device that can fail, not much benefit.... For those doing a lot of track work, its a great compromise as long as it proves to be reliable...

    Re: Dynamic Engine Mount...

I talked with a race driver about this option and here is his view on the matter: first of all, the engine mounts of the cup car and the RSR has nothing in common with this system. Second, a good driver, when the car reach the limit, feels the "push" of the rear engine as an early warning system. With the new system that treshhold will be reduced. So you better think twice if you want to add it. It's more for road use.
