    Engine Problem?

    The past few days I have noticed several ounces of engine coolant and water coming out of the front of the left exhaust tip (approx. area) when I park the car.  The engine temperature is indicating 'normal' and no warning light is registering.  Thoughts on this and its seriousness?  Thanks.Smiley

     What year is your car? It could be a cracked coolant expansion tank or its cap.

    how much coolant have you lost ?

    Good guess ADias, and thanks to both you and intouch 1 for your help.  I took the car into the dealer today, and fortunately  they were able to take a look at it for me.  The cap needed to be replaced.  My car is an '08 C4S.

    This problem - overflow tank and cap - has been around since 1999... PAG did not bother to fix it once and for all.

    This problem - overflow tank and cap - has been around since 1999... PAG did not bother to fix it once and for all. 

    I was thinking the same thing, I can't believe its still the coolant overflow problem on a '08 model

    The cap has been redesigned years ago and from what I know there are no problems.

    Perhaps in the case of our friend the specific part on his car had a defect and needed to be replaced.

    I will check with the Service Rep. as he wasn't there when the car was ready and I never actually saw the work order.  He had given me the information about the cap verbally. 

    I also posted this same issue on the 6speed forum and received one other interesting response which referred to the problem being caused by a bad water pump seal. The owner in this case had the seal replaced and it fixed the problem. 

    I don't know how thoroughly Porsche service technicians check problems like this, i.e. tests, etc. but one would think they would at minimum have checked all the parts connected to the coolant system.

    They pressure tested the coolant system and the coolant cap. Cause of the problem: "Coolant leak at expansion tank cap" Solution: cap replaced.
