    DFI engine valve carbon buildup

Cayenne DFI engine owners are reporting severe carbon buildup on intake valves. See example here:

Is this also a problem on the new 997.2 DFI engines? Do they have the same design (perhaps w/ crankcase ventilation)?

I meant crankcase recirculation NOT ventilation. Ventilation would cure it though.

    That doesn't look good.

What is Porsche doing against it?

The fuel quality is very important in the case of DFI engines generally. Make sure you get top fuel and never economise.

Re: DFI engine valve carbon buildup

...absolutely! The RS Spyders (with the DFI engines) were having the same problems with the racing fuel that was provided by IMSA (ALMS) and Porsche had to request that more detergent was added in order to "cure" the problem.

Hmm, problem is, you can't really influence fuel quality, can you? Smiley

    Will 98-Super-Plus be enough? Smiley

I would say to put the best fuel in each one's area, and hope it's alright!

I don't think that in Germany (and most other major european countries), you can find bad fuel, even if you tried.

Fuel is always important but I do not think the fuel is the culprit here. There is no fuel washing down crankcase oil vapors in intake inlets and valves in DFI engines.

Re: DFI engine valve carbon buildup

OK perhaps you are right, but I'll provide you with a quote from Mike Fullers blog anyway:

"Porsche approached IMSA about a variance to the fuel regulation as they struggled with a technical detail on their direct injection RS Spyder engine.  Apparently the spec E10 fuel was causing detrimental levels of deposits to build up in the direct injectors leading to reliability concerns.  IMSA issued the variance to allow Porsche (and any ALMS team) to run higher levels of Techron in the IMSA E10 fuel".

Re: DFI engine valve carbon buildup

That is good info as it applies to injectors. Many of us already fill w/ Chevron which has Techron. :)

This seems to allow using Techron as a separate engine cleaner to periodically clean the engine.
