2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Guys, another F1 GP race this weekend. It's been a fairytale start to the 2009 season for the 'back from the dead' BrawnGP-Mercedes team. A month ago, their whole future was hanging by a thread and then they qualified 1-2 and finished 1-2. A perfect debut for the new team. Button had his first chance to shine since Hungary in 2006 and he took it with both hands Smiley I've always said he is a very good driver who just needed a decent car. Smiley

I wonder how this next race will go given that very little development can be done on back-to-back race weekends. However, the track and weather conditions are very different to Melbourne. A sudden tropical rain shower could really mix things up.

I am hoping for an exciting race with lots of overtaking. So far, there have been so many technical changes and rules changes all designed to increase overtaking - I honestly don't think we saw much more of it in Melbourne than we did in 2008. But it's early days - too soon to judge whether the changes have had their desired effect.

Melbourne was a dramatic race filled with incidents - 2 safety cars - but I'm looking for a classic race this time. We were deprived of a classic finish in Melbourne with Kubica and Vettel both crashing out otherwise we could have seen a real battle for the finish between Button and Kubica.

    Go Jenson SmileySmiley

Formula 1 used to be a brilliant sport now the FIA (Foolish Ignorant Arrogant) is destroying it.

    - diffussor

    - Vettel punishment - why not Barichello (first corner - to late breaking)

    - Hamilton punished after 4 days - they should be calles SFIA (Slow  Foolish Ignorant Arrogant)

    - Toyota disqualified on saturday and on sunday they are allowed to drive?? Did they change the rear wing?

practice seems to be quite similar in teams to last weekends results... no real surprised or changes yet to be seen. Some teams are taking it easy and KERS cars are quite fast, not surprisingly. Also, i think the teams with the controversial rear diffusors will have an edge here again because it is a very fluid high speed track that awards downforce...

    ahould be interesting..

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Button's success has been long overdue. Remember when he started with Williams in 2000 he was the new promise of F1. However, he has been always at the wrong team at the wrong time.

I wonder, though, if Brawn's resources will be enough to keep the team amongst the front runners for a sustained period of time!

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Red flag, Button first, then Glock then Heidfeld. Hoping for a restart, but it seems implausible. (Still 10 rounds to drive to 75%)

Ferrari was just an embarrassment, they gave Raikkönen rain tires long before the rain, and as the rain started he was way behind and the tires gone.

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Vettel had bad luck, sadly his electronics didn't prevent the engine from dying.

He proposed to reintroduce a clutch pedal, so the driver can keep the engine running without relying on the electronics.

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

    Button wins again!!!

Heidfeld second, Glock third, Trulli fourth, Barrichello fifth, Webber sixth, Hamilton seventh, Rosberg eighth.

What a crazy race...Button won under the safety car in Melbourne with this race in Sepang ending early. When will he enjoy winning normally?? ;) ;)

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Actually, Jenson Button comes across better than Hamilton as a personality and at least as good a driver. I hope the Brawn adventure continues well!

Nevertheless, talking of Hamilton we must give him credit that for the second race in a row he managed to finish in the points despite his very low Qualifying position.

Finally the races from F1 don´t get you asleep... If at least FIA would not interfiere anymore after the races are finished, I would say the F1 rocks again!!!

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Hamilton still is a very gifted driver, too bad to see what the bad influence of politics and money can do to a young champion.

Nevertheless, this race was nice to watch, a lot of position changes, high stakes strategy gamble and a result I can live with.

Nice to see that whenever chaos reigns, Heidfeld comes out at the podium.

    To bad for Vettel though.

Re: 2009 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix in Sepang

Unfortunatly no restart but a nice race. specially the one with Raikonnen.

Such a pitty for Buemi in the Q1, when he did went to large and out. We could hear him on the radio saying: " Oh no, why sorry." I really have a good feeling about him. His a rookie but he's learning fast.

Don't forget he comes from a family of racer. Don't know if you heard about Natacha Gachang in the American formul, i think. Well she's his cousin.

Anyway decision was long to come if restart or not but finally it's been taken and my favorit come out first again.

i'm starting my season in two weeks at Hockenheim and i'm looking forward to it.

Happy to see Jensen finally having some success. Well deserved and about time.

Now I'd really like to see Mark Webber and Rubens get a few wins before they close out their careers. Mark has always been plagued by bad luck (caught up in accidents through no fault of his own - blown engines (Monaco was crushing) - bad pit strategy) and Rubens, well, he had to play "blocker" and support for Schumi.
