Oh. I kinda had that one comming SciFrog
I recalled an article on 996 brakes from a Porsche magazine I have called 911&Porsche World. I found the correct issue from may 2007. There it says that half of the original rotors for both the Boxter and 996 are very prone to rusting on the inner face depending on from which of the 2 OEM factories the rotors originates. There is no way of telling which one you've got until the rusting starts!!! This is the case with my rotors so....
Why should I buy OEM if there is a 50/50 chance I'll end up having to replace everything again after another 4 years/45000km? If it does not affect the braking of the car and the brakes stay quiet (no squeeling please!!) I dont see the point.
My dealer here in Iceland is so expensive that it would pay off to fly to England or even USA and pick up a set of OEM brake-kit not to mention any of the aftermarket brands. So because of this my view is if the brakes stay quiet I would rather replace everything with an aftermarket brand every 2-3 years. I believe that the braking performance of non rust-infested aftermarket rotors must be better than of a rust-infested OEM ones in 2-3 years time!
Any opinions?
