Switzer Performance Innovations, an American tuning firm, has unveiled a twin-turbo kit for the Porsche 911 that boosts its output to a whopping 1,000 horsepower.
The goal of Tym Switzer's project was to test the limits of the stock 997 internals. Let him explain: "When the customer first came to me with his 997, we talked a lot about pushing the limits of the new engine and what might be possible using stock internals. I had already been inside the 997 turbo engines, and felt that 700 hp at the wheels seemed well within reach on pump fuel, and that we might be able to go a bit further."
The result is his Sledgehammer Porsche 997 that has 1,000 hp at the crankshaft and delivers 850 hp and 727 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels on race fuel. Switzer says the car jets to 60 mph in the mid-2-second range and takes less than 5 seconds to go from 60-130 mph. That means a 9.8-second quarter-mile, with trap speeds consistently breaching the 145-mph mark.
The Sledgehammer package retails for $49,990. It includes an extensive ECU tune, SPI-developed headers and sport exhaust, an intercooler package and modified Garrett GT30R turbos.
