Does the second line mention 5-valves per cylinder ?

Hnmmm - I read 6-Zylinder der 5-Version??? Doesnt make sense either? Smiley

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    Euro 5 - version  engine ???

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

They  wrote: "3.8 Liter großer Sechszylinder der S-Version - Leistungszuwachs auf 400 PS"

which just means: 3.8 litre six-cylinder S version - power increase to 400 BHP. (They just distinguished from the non-S version).

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

The front end of the red car shown in Auto Zeitung is PS from Panamera.  I think it will be a mistake to make the next 911 look like a Panamera.  The 996 was critised for not looking like a 911 with those infamous fry-egg headlight, until it was improved with oval/round shape in MKII.  I think putting a Panamera highlight to the next 911 will be just as bad.  If I have to bet, I will say the picture is of a 2-door Panamera.

Monster , I agree with you 100% on lights and hope / expect that Porsche will maintain classic  911 look - as  I do believe this is  next 911

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Currently, I think that the 997 1st gen(pre-facelift) has a very "clean" design in the tradition of the classic 911. Porsche should care less about the exterior and more about the interior and the technical part. I know they want to sell cars but a 911 is not ANY other car, so changing the exterior every three years may actually be a curse and not helpful at all.

Personally, I would stretch the 911 a little bit(not much!) to allow more leg room for the rear passengers. If drivers need something smaller, there is the Cayman.

I agree with RC in terms of the clean design of the 1st gen 997. I have a porsche book on the 997 which goes into intricate detail on the thinking behind the orignal 997 design. I loved it when it first came out and i still love it now!! I think the facelift will suit the GT3 and Turbo more IMO :-)

I wouldnt need the legroom for kids but my golfbag would like it Smiley

Also, I think a streched version would make the car a bit more quiet on High Speeds. Just not sure what the corner handling would do? Smiley

I was thinking the headlights look very CGT but you know what I've yet too see a magazine PS exactly way a  a Porsche is going to look this far ahead of production.

I think we should worry - not . Even the air intakes and front lip on P-shop are way off from one on the mule , which I believe are final , specially front lip ( only camouflaged with that turbo spoiler ) .  After all , the head lights on the mule are not exactly 997 (that black piece)  I am pretty sure that 'red car' front is 'borrowed' from next Boxster / Cayman .

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Well, I'm really, REALLY worried about the foglight warts. Under all the camo, there seems to be a definite shape visible already. Look at the inward sides of the inlets on the front bumper. I can't see whether the foglights are part of that definite shape also, but I really hate them the way they are now, as they spoil the clean lines of the car. The same way, I really hate those lights on the 997 turbo.

I just have to come back on n Mishas Post. This car looks so amazing awesome and still like 911. It would be a great wish of me that they come up with such a car. AMAZINGLY STUNNING!

I think the spy pictures are the new 998 coupe, not the Turbo.

As a new member I live vicariously through my fellow members.  It has been over 13 years since I sold my Porsche and I hope someday I will be fortunate again to have such a great vehicle in my possession.

Now having said that I have never been much of a fan of theTT.   I much prefer the clean lines  a C4S or GT3.    However, the spy pics of the 998 TT posted by Misha make me change my mind.   That is one sweet, sweet looking car !    If only.

This car will be insanely powerful, check out the butchness and the giant wheels.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

The roofline is much sportier. I think this looks already better then the 997.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Very happy that classic shape of 911 head-lights is kept .

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Although the top pix is not the turbo but for the sake of comparison the roof line is so much smoother and if you look at the vent sticker on the side, it seems to me that the wheel base has grown a bit too.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

    You are right Ron!

The roof looks much better and gives a much smoother and sportier shape to that car. Also I agree, the wheelbase seems indeed a bit longer and the area behind the rear wheel is longer, too! Two ideas pop into my mind:

    1. the wheelbase and car is longer as the wheigtbalnce will move ahead of the axle (mid-engined)

    2. the engine gets much bigger (maybe 8 or 10 Cyl), thats also the reason why the back changes more and is thatfore heavier camoflaged as the front. where they still can keep the 997 look until the "ready" product comes. In the rear they cant stick to the 997 look for camo as it is totally new

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

I think the engine will remain the same 6 cyl. boxer... Will get more power and it seems that after so many critics Porsche will change the buttons for the PDK.

Re: 998 Turbo - Spy shots Thread Closed

Given the butch appearance and the significantly increased width, I suspect 8 cylinders for this one. Can't see another logical reason for increasing the size of the car as the Panamera will serve those looking for a spacious "sports car".
