    Uneven Tire Wear on C4S

    Has anyone had a problem with uneven tire wear on a C4S? Had a flat tire this weekend and when we inspected tires both front and rear were wearing substantially more on the inside. Could this be caused by factory settings for wheels? Does anyone know the approx. replacement mileage for stock Conti tires?

    That's normal. It's due to the camber of the wheels. They're set that way for better turn-in, but it results in the bad wear characteristics you're seeing. You can decrease the camber and it'll go away, but at the expense of worse turn-in.

    Its very hard to give a estimate, but for Conti`s as they are quite a hard compound you should get around 40 000Km if your not gunning it all the time. But if you gun the car all day it can go as low as 15 000Km on C4S.
    I once changed a 996 Turbo`s third set of tyres and it was only on 15 000Km.

    Negative camber - yes. But you may also have some toe-out in the front. Good for turn-in at the track, bad for stability and tire wear!
    A well set-up 996 will always experience more tire wear in the inside of the rears, due to suspension geometry. (made to increase negative camber under load) Some neg camber in the front will not wear the tires to badly, unless combined with toe-out.
    Have your car set up by an experienced P-shop or mechanic. talk to the guy first and let him know how you use your car and what your handing priorities are.
