    Tracking my Porsche

I noticed a number of waiters for their 997S have tracked their car. Is there a website or other way to follow the build/shipping progress of my 997S? I have an order number and invoice number.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

I am in the same boat as you ,maybe even a little behind .I have a feb. build which i wanted to change brake option but any changes were rejected.I was trying to picture the assembly line process. I also would like to check on the progress of our new 911 s .Come on fellow rennteamers help a couple of newbie midwesterners track there cars .Not much else to do around here while we wait for spring and the wild blue yonder. Check with your dealer. They should be able to tell you the status of the production. I believe that is the only way. Good Luck. Enjoy the wait and it is worth it. I waited for 3-1/2 month for mine. Just get delivery three weeks ago.

I would suggest that you check with your dealer, notably your salesman. Dealers have a computer link to Porsche and can determine the status of your order.

When I ordered a 997S in late October, the dealer gave me a rough delivery date of mid-late February, approximately 120 days after the order was placed. I emailed my salesman several times, and he was able to give me better information, first telling me that the delivery would be moved up quite a bit. At first, he thought that the car would be built during the first week of January, but then the rush of getting the Cayman S to market in the U.S. delayed that build 2 weeks. I talked to my salesman today, and he said that the latest information was that my car's production was probably started on Tuesday, possibly finished then. He did not yet have a VIN but thought that would come within a short time. He's now anticipating that I could take delivery during the first full week of February.

While I was a bit reluctant to keep "bugging" my salesman, he has been very accomodating in answering all my questions about my order. So I strongly urge you to keep in touch with your salesman, maybe calling him once every 4 weeks after you have ordered the car, and then, 10 weeks or so after ordering it, start calling him every two weeks to get the latest information.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

Jim..That seems overly optamistic. My car was built on 01/06 and a VIN was immediately available. Actually I recall that VINS are assigned during painting. Anyway I am still at CKPT 8 (?) awainting a vessel. Salesmen for the mostpart seem to know a lot less than this board.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

    RAKLAW,

Thanks for the insight. What you say makes sense. Maybe I won't be getting it as soon as I thought or as the salesman "promised." I can't think of any other reason why they wouldn't give me the VIN, as it should be assigned prior to production.

I guess I'll find out soon enough.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

Right..When your dealer logs on to the e-DCS system that tracks the event status of your car, the pro forma invoice will automatically provide the VIN, if one has been assigned. If the car was produced, there are no maybes, a VIN is assigned and readily available to the dealer. Have them provide you with your up to date status code. If its CMPPRD the car is built and has a VIN. You can join me in the advanced waiting game.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

    RAKLAW,

I forgot to tell you my salesman mentioned that shipping had been a hangup as Porsche used its available space to ship the new Cayman S to the U.S. for this past week's model introduction. Maybe that's why your car has been held up. That was supposedly why my car, which he had said was originally supposed to have been built on 1/04, was held up. Sounds a bit weird, given that yours has been built but not shipped.

Thanks for the information about the tracking codes. I'll ask my dealer what the latest code is.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

Got good news today..My car is ONVESL, as of 1/20. Guess I pushed a Cayman aside to get to the head of the line.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

Hi RAKLAW, that's congrats on your order and the ONVESL status.

Hope the following info helps your planning....My car was ONVESL 1-5-05, was in port (Baltimore) 1-13-05, and received at Pepe (Westchester, NY Dealer) on 1-19-05. I picked up the car yesterday evening, and have been enjoying every minute since. You will too....

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

Many thanks.(Pepe certainly got your car ready quickly!).Your info is great..Mine goes up to Greenwich. Are there any on line cameras at Baltimore port, like San Diego for example?? Best of luck with your new baby.

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

    Congratulations,

With a 1/20 shipping date, you should get your car in two weeks!!

    RAKLAW,

Just got word from my salesman that my 997S has been produced and will arrive at the dealer on February 7. I'm looking forward to taking delivery no more than two or three days after that. If I take delivery on the 10th of February, that would make it 109 days from the date of my order (October 24) and 105 days from the date the order was submitted and accepted by Porsche (October 28). That's only three weeks later than the initial date they thought it would arrive (that was Jan. 18) and within the 120 days from the date of order that the saleman said was the usual delivery time.

I can't wait to take delivery!!!!

    Re: Tracking my Porsche

You must be excited..What date were you ONVESL?

Definitely excited!!!!! I got in touch with my salesman again to clarify a message he left at my home while I was out last night, and he gave me the VIN number and said that the car would be put on the next available ship - later this week I assume - and was scheduled to arrive in Baltimore on Feb. 7 (not at the dealer, as I previously thought) and get to the dealer by Feb. 10. Given the past delays, I think this date is pretty firm. I will probably take delivery early during the start of the next week, on Feb. 13 or 14. I'm hoping that the generally mild winter weather we have had so far in Virginia holds out so I won't have to delay getting the car.

I should have some really outstanding drives on the winding, hilly, and sometimes mountainous roads in western and southwestern Virginia. To me, this is truly Porsche country, but then, what roads aren't Porsche country?

    Porsche Rules!!!!!!
