    50 different states plus the District of Columbia means 51 different ways to order a vanity plate. SO the cost can vary from very little to a little more. Some states, the plates are based on the cost of the vehicle, so the cost also vary. When California went to 7 digits, the most requested plate in California history was "PORSCHE". At the Los Angeles Auto Show this last week, Porsche had that car on display (a 356 as I recall). Anyway, here is the link for California's plates:

    The best plate I ever saw here in Southern Cal was in Beverly Hills , it was a mercedes 500SL and it said
    " Was His "

    Madadd, if I'm not mistaken, vanity plates do also exist in the UK.

    Bulletproof way to evade tickets in continental Europe:
    1/ Look for a car that is identical to yours in your country, but not in the same area (lest the other driver finds out!).
    2/ Have the car registered in the UK.
    3/ Get a UK vanity plate which is identical to the other car.
    4/ Have the license plate printed in your country. Make sure it's not the model with the symbol of your country on the left, as you could be fined for using a French-labelled plate on a UK-registered car.
    5/ Drive the car like you stole it, the other driver will get your tickets!

    Not that I'd be that evil, of course! ;p
