"possibly the best sports car ever made"

ROBB REPORT winner 2006 CAR OF THE YEAR: Ferrari F430 Spider...the editors quoting "possibly the best sports car ever made" Last year the 2005 car of the year was the 430 coupe and this year the Spider .... Ferrari really has taken the top spot with this car it really seems to be in a league of its own now .

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

It's 19 january, and they're already announcing the CAR OF THE YEAR?
Well, that was a short year then
There are a lot of awesome cars coming this year, including Ferraris and Porsches, I just don't see the F430 the 'car of the year'.

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

Having had the privilege of owning both, I can tell they are. What makes them fantastic is you don't have to be violating traffic laws to enjoy the beauty, sound and handling of the car.It is a special occasion each time you get in a take a ride. Your feelings are reinforced by other drivers who look, covet and dream. I have had at least 10 people mostly strangers tell me "someday". I know the feeling.

Brunner I believe other magazines have found the 430 their car of the year including Top Gear.

if the old GT3 was about even with the 430 I am sure the new 997TT and 997GT3 will be much faster but as nberry say's it really is not all about performance the sum total is what makes the 430 so so nice . As excited as I am about getting this new 997TT I am sad I can not pay the over MSRP of the Spider . This is the first time I have bought a Porsche and really wanted another car more but the wait is out of the question for me .

    You're missing my point
That was LAST year's 'Car of the Year'. How can they name a COTY when the year has just begun?

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

it might not be the fastest car around ,but as an overall package ,IMO it is the best sports car ever made...

these are the key words ... like the perfect girl it is the overall package that make her the must have .

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

The magazine's are picking 2005/2006 model winners. Many British magazine's arrive in the US one month late. Reporting in US magazine may be more timely but often the post on a website is delayed. You certainly are smart enough to have thought this through.

Nick, Brunner was also smart enough to have read the original post before making his comment.

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

Is it possible that all Nick is pointing out is that these COTYs are based on model year not calendar year?

Most manufacturers release their new models for the next year in the Fall or Winter prior. Porsche, for example, is releasing the 997TT as an '07 model even though some on this board, including RC, may be receiving their cars this May.

    It's all about marketing.

I know how you feel. I'm also on the list for the 997TT(Cab) but I already know lookswise it will not compare to the 430 and maybe not even my 993 'turbo' cab. Performance may be better however. I just can't come to terms with paying $80-90k above list(even though I can afford it) after getting a nice DISCOUNT on every car I've ever purchased!! Dilemna, dilemna, LOL.

Re: "possibly the best sports car ever made"

    Dilemma, that is

If that is what Nick was trying to point out, then he should have just said so.

Instead, his post drew attention to the fact that British car mags are distributed a month late in the USA, suggesting that he thinks that the Robb Report is a British magazine, whose December issue announcing its Car of the Year for 2005 would hit the newsstands in the USA in January 2006.

Nick, you're not supposed to shout "BINGO" until all the numbers on your card have been called!
