Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

Ok sorry for the annoying subject, but i needed to get your attention. This was a bulletin from one of my friends, and i dont know if its true, but i wanted to be safe and let you guys know.

"For those of us that like to boneout on the freeway...

California Highway Patrol will launch a 30-day speeding ticket frenzy in South Orange County starting January 25, 2006. The state estimates that 22 million dollars will be generated in speeding tickets. 3 million will go to pay California Highway Patrol officer overtime. There will be 90 California Highway Patrol officers on duty at all times patrolling the 7 freeways.

    They are the following: 73, 55, 133, 241, 57, 5, 405, 605 freeways

Now 7 mph above the limit can justify a ticket and every California Highway Patrol officers is supposed to pull a car over and write a ticket every 10 minutes. They have issued 50 brand new unmarked Crown Victoria cruisers and they are bringing all their part timers on full time. If you live or work in South Orange County you must take one of their freeways. It's up to you how fast you are doing when they do. This is a test by the CHP to raise the extra funds for the State of California. The California State Legislators dreamed up this law to help close the budget gap or something like that. I was told KICU-FM confirmed all of this. So be safe and don't forget speeding tickets are on you."

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

    Thanks for alerting us
    That is just terrible
I better start utilizing my cruise control for a while

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

I believe that is untrue. I've seen that "warning" before. Only, it was NJ State Troopers a couple years ago.

Besides, a ticket every ten minutes? Part timers being put on full time? Imagine the traffic jams, the angry motorists, the packed courtrooms, the accusations that police response was slow because of a state sponsered ticketing fest, the logistical costs associated with overtime scheduling and pay. Makes no sense.

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

Calif highway partol are not police and this would not effect "Police Response". While a 30 day ticket bonanza is a long time, this is not an uncommon event for CHP... Particularily in the OC region...

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

Easy to get out of tickets given by unmarked officers...

People v Tuck - Section 40800 appears in chapter 3 under the title "Illegal Evidence," and is followed by sections 40801, 40802 and 40803 relating to speed traps and prohibiting use of speed trap evidence, and section 40804 making an officer not in uniform and driving an unmarked vehicle who has arrested a driver for a speed violation incompetent to testify as a witness in a prosecution of the charge.

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

It is yet another tax, they will not be happy until they can squeeze you for all your worth.

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

This sounds like one of the bogus "caution, killer virus on the loose!" chain e-mails...
I don't think you're in any greater danger than usual.

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

I want to say that they did this same type of blitz last year. They could nail people all day long if they wanted to so what's the reason for announcing it other than to try to scare you. I'll be keeping an eye peeled though

It does affect police response.. the freeways down there are a busy place, and the CHP are required to stop for disabled motorists as well as respond to accidents. You may only see an accident once in awhile, but they are busier than you think they are. There are accidents all day long, every day. This whole 'unmarked car ticket frenzy' is not gonna happen, if it does someone please refer me to whatever proof they may have and I will gladly eat crow!

    So true....

Most in LA/SF don't appreciate how fast the relevant fwys flow in rush-hr vs any other economically relevant urban region in world (most in CA clearly don't know NYC/London/Chicago, etc very well ).....as even my German pals point out, 280 on SF Penin and 73 in NwptCoast corridor flow as freely as any Munich autobahn in rush-hr (let's also adjust for weather-related fwy slowdowns, where CA's near-perfect 300+d/yr weather further elevates our median speeds)....and I've always found/heard of CHP enfcmt to be very rational/reasonable, esp vs police in most of Eastern US or London....

Re: Anyone in So-Cal Must read!!!!!!!! Coppers on the loose

I'm so glad it has to do with highway safety! CHP really pisses me off. The can have a valid function in this world, if ever they were to find it.

And yes, the 280 fwy in the peninsula may flow feely, but thats because there aren't that many cars. Try 101 in Marin. All the CHP do there is slow everyone down, and make things worse.

OK, this is a hoax. There is no radio station with those call letters and the CHP itself has stated this is a hoax.

First it was the Porsche radios switching to Power 106, now CHP writing tickets.
