Top Gear - Norwegian speedskater faster than Jaguar XK8
Top Gear is making a special "Top Gear Winter Olympics" program which will be broadcasted in conjunction with the games in Torino.
This show was recorded at Lillehammer, host of the 1994 winter olympics, this week and some of the competitions included:
- Sending a Mini down the largest skijumping hill (120m)
- Jumping with a snowmobile in one of the smaller hills
- Ice hockey match using cars
- Biathlon, using a off-roader and a machine gun
(Biathlon is cross-country skiing combined with shooting at a shooting range for those of you who don't watch winterpsorts. The biathletes carry the 22 cal rifles on their back, typically ski for 2.5 km, shoot, ski 2.5 km, shoot...)
- And finally a race on the speedskater ice/arena between norwegian speedskater (and olympic participant) Eskil Ervik and the Jaguar XK8 you see in the picture.
I'm not gonna tell you who won, but if you have ever tried to get a 1.5 tonne vehicle around a ice covered oval, with only normal (studded) winter tires, and considering that a speedskater can get round thew 500m oval in about 35 sec with a topspeed of more than 60 km/h, you should be able to figure out who won All in all, it should be a highly entertaining program to look forward to
I wonder if that is The Stig wearing the balaclava
