You guys are nuts! 520 hp is a handful. Even with 480 hp 99% will not get close to 75% of the car limits unless you have death wish.
I guess this is the first time I FULLY agree with you, Nick.
Disagree....
Give a 150hp car to a drunk guy/an inattentive driver tailgating on a slick road....and even at 65MPH, several people can be killed in moments....
If 500-700hp/lb-ft cars aren't desired by US buyers for whatever reason, they won't sell and mfrs will need to modify their product plans....but let the mkt decide....
Guys w/good judgement know where and when to reasonably exploit a larger fraction of the power of their cars....there are risks and limitations in every setting, whether a CA fwy/mtn twisty/track/German autobahn....let Darwinian selection prevail....the fear of death/injury/jailtime for vehicular manslaughter/lawsuits, etc keeps most balanced risk/reward guys in-line; pure risk-seekers often have very little to lose and will get themselves into trouble w/cars w/far less than 500hp....

Al, I think boss69 most eloquently presents the case: more power in the hands of rationally enthusiastic and capable drivers is always good .....even on SF's 280 fwy in rush hour, I can sense turbo lag of 996TTS vs an SL55/65 for the inevitable 70-120MPH surges that one can/will deploy and enjoy as one reasonably and safely solves the "jigsaw puzzle" of rush-hr 280 traffic....

It sounds like you need some roadtrips into the Napa Valley away from all that traffic, or, perhpas, farther east in to Bonneville Salt Flats.

This is a really cool feature!
Do you think it'll be retrofitable to previous 997 RC or is it part of the a whole new PCM3 system which won't be retrofittable?
Francois, relax my friend. It was just a hoax, a joke. Some people, incl. me, seem to get fed up with all that bragging about power and options.
There will be some sort of iPod integration but not for the video iPod and not in the trunk. And I'm sure Adnan knows that very well too, he just wanted to have a little bit of fun. Well done, Adnan.

In all seriousness, Dimitri, any mention of a powerkit option? A couple of northeast USA dealers have stated more than once, and of course we have bantered back and forth here on rennteam, about a powerkit at launch. I don't crave PDK/PDCS, 6-speed manual is OK by me, but a powerkit now might sway me toward the base 997TT rather than holding out for the "S."

RC, will the current builds (March 06) accomodate the I Pod integration?
Sooner or later...yes.
I was also wondering if the ipod integration will be an option to all models.

Are you referring to the non-Turbo models?

I don't beleive in this romour. If the Turbo S will be availible hardly anyone would buy the Turbo model.
Huh? That's like saying nobody will buy the base 997 because the 997S is available.

I just returned from Naples, Florida, and I spent my "obligatory" visit to the Barnes and Noble store at the Waterside Shops at Pelican Bay on Saturday
