In all seriousness, Dimitri, any mention of a powerkit option? A couple of northeast USA dealers have stated more than once, and of course we have bantered back and forth here on rennteam, about a powerkit at launch. I don't crave PDK/PDCS, 6-speed manual is OK by me, but a powerkit now might sway me toward the base 997TT rather than holding out for the "S."

You guys are nuts! 520 hp is a handful. Even with 480 hp 99% will not get close to 75% of the car limits unless you have death wish.

I guess this is the first time I FULLY agree with you, Nick.

    Disagree....

Give a 150hp car to a drunk guy/an inattentive driver tailgating on a slick road....and even at 65MPH, several people can be killed in moments....

If 500-700hp/lb-ft cars aren't desired by US buyers for whatever reason, they won't sell and mfrs will need to modify their product plans....but let the mkt decide....

Guys w/good judgement know where and when to reasonably exploit a larger fraction of the power of their cars....there are risks and limitations in every setting, whether a CA fwy/mtn twisty/track/German autobahn....let Darwinian selection prevail....the fear of death/injury/jailtime for vehicular manslaughter/lawsuits, etc keeps most balanced risk/reward guys in-line; pure risk-seekers often have very little to lose and will get themselves into trouble w/cars w/far less than 500hp....

I agree with VKSF's sentiment but for a different reason: Suppose with 480 (peak) HP, the 997TT (even in Tip) goes 0-100kph in 3.7, 0-160 in 7.8, and 0-200 in 12.0, BUT the powerkit/"S" with 520-525 (peak) HP, based on ECU mapping and VTG impeller pitch angles/guide vane control, yields times of 3.5, 7.5, and 11.6, in the hands of amateur drivers on non-race grade fuel (95/93 octane), but with the same steering/handling, stability management and brakes on the two models. Would you guys steer clear of the powerkit/"S" model and claim it's a widowmaker with no useable value to anyone but track racers and lunatics?

    Re: 911 & Porsche World says: Turbo S with 520hp available .

Al, I think boss69 most eloquently presents the case: more power in the hands of rationally enthusiastic and capable drivers is always good .....even on SF's 280 fwy in rush hour, I can sense turbo lag of 996TTS vs an SL55/65 for the inevitable 70-120MPH surges that one can/will deploy and enjoy as one reasonably and safely solves the "jigsaw puzzle" of rush-hr 280 traffic....

It sounds like you need some roadtrips into the Napa Valley away from all that traffic, or, perhpas, farther east in to Bonneville Salt Flats.

Al, I know the NapaVy roads well ....I have a lot more fun on 280 and in the Woodside mtns....all within 50mis of SF.... ....and places like CA's I-5, DeathVy, etc are poor risk-reward to me....lots of painful distance to get there (even at high speeds) and if anything goes wrong, kinda far from any competent trauma center/P dealer, etc.....

This is a really cool feature!
Do you think it'll be retrofitable to previous 997 RC or is it part of the a whole new PCM3 system which won't be retrofittable?

Francois, relax my friend. It was just a hoax, a joke. Some people, incl. me, seem to get fed up with all that bragging about power and options.
There will be some sort of iPod integration but not for the video iPod and not in the trunk. And I'm sure Adnan knows that very well too, he just wanted to have a little bit of fun. Well done, Adnan.

Also the power boost control is integrated in the iPod controller. So by moving your finger in the center controller of iPod you increase the pressure of the turbo from 0,6 bar standard to exciting 1,6 bar. So the 997 tt with iPod can accelerate not in 3,7 sec to 100 km/h, he will accelerate in 3,2 seconds. Even the new Playstation 3 can be integrated. In this case you can watch movies in HDTV 1080p quality on the PCM3 screen. The acceleration will be then below 3 seconds.

So we are all waiting for the Playstation 3 with its 8 cpus. The Playstation 3 can move its power through three gigabit ethernet interface to the 997 tt engine. By doing this the Playstation 4 reduces it internal 2 TFLOPS to 1,2 TFLOPS allowing only two players to connect. An the power of the 997 tt will be increased to 560 hp.

absolutly nothing about a powerkit... and i seriously doubt they will propose one in the first year..it is an excellent marketing tool for porsche, they wont give it from the beginning ,specially since the performance of the car is already crazy...

It may be one of the options which won't be available from the start or they didn't mention it yet. iPod integration is coming, it is only a matter of time. BTW: the PCM won't be called PCM 3, it is still a PCM 2 with some minor improvements. Apparently the PCM 3 is due with the Cayenne facelift.

    Re: 911 & Porsche World says: Turbo S with 520hp available .

RC, will the current builds (March 06) accomodate the I Pod integration?

Yes, I'm getting a Cab 4S (March build) and was wondering if it would get the improved PCM (with Ipod integration)

    Re: 911 & Porsche World says: Turbo S with 520hp available .

no just the new cayenes 07 will have PCM3 with bluetooth and ipod integration I beleive...

    Re: 911 & Porsche World says: Turbo S with 520hp available .

I don't beleive in this romour. If the Turbo S will be availible hardly anyone would buy the Turbo model.

Huh? That's like saying nobody will buy the base 997 because the 997S is available.

I just returned from Naples, Florida, and I spent my "obligatory" visit to the Barnes and Noble store at the Waterside Shops at Pelican Bay on Saturday reading that same 911 and Porsche World article, and while it makes it seem more "legitimate" and more likely to be accurate (after all, it's in a magazine so it must be true ), it seems highly improbable that the "S" would come out with the baseTT, the "S" will of course be Porsche's way of maintaining sales of the 997TT while the 998NA comes out (as was the case with the 996TT and 997NA), perhaps this time by introducing PDK/PDCS, DI, eBooster, as well? It would seem possible , if not probable, on the contrary, to offer the powerkit at launch or at least this year-as suggested by at least two northeast US dealers. But, alas, it is also likely that the mag. is simply dead wrong....

This is my favourite Barnes & Noble by far. Can't wait to be there again next spring

I read the same item on Saturday. It's a mere allusion-they did not state when, and I would describe it as only a re-hash of and reference to rumours.

So lets just say a car had 490HP & less safety features. That car would be a coffin on wheels!
