    Car hire, Europe (Germany)

I'm going to be in Germany for a week or so in March / April and would like to hire a car. Dont really want a Punto or usual hire car crap as I'd like to have a bit of fun on the autobahn... Does anyone know of anywhere to hire something interesting? Perhaps a 911, M3 etc etc...
I remember seeing somewhere that you could hire a 997 for reasonable money, although I cant find it for the life of me!
    Any help appreciated.

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

You could try www.eliterent.com but i am not sure if i would call their prices reasonable! The service is awesome though!

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

Remember an article about a rather reasonable priced (and decently speced) 997S for hire in Germany, will see if I find it when i get home..

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

In the new exellence they have and artical about avis renting 911's. try to do research on it my self but the site is only in german. Maybe some of our german speaking friend could help. The web site they refered to is www.avis.de. Good luck and if you find out how to do it. Let me know, as i said i am planing a trip also!

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

Yes i also read about the avis 911 thing, and also remember it being reasonably priced. HOwever when looking on the site again I couldnt find anything.

Will do some research tonight and post what I find.

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

Ok found it but on the German site with no english translation!

They a section called "fun cars" and you can get a 911 coupe or Cab..

    http://www.avis.de/avisonline/de/avis.ns...1256D43002EEDC8

Can any of our German friends translate the page and let me know how much they are asking???

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

yes, avis is the only company of the major rental car companies (Sixt, Europcar are the other two, then there is Alamo/National/Budget and local small car rental companies) that has 911/Cayenne on their regular list (and had the boxster and the past but according to their current website do not have it any longer).
They recommend booking 14 days in advance.
Sometimes Sixt offers special cars (Ferrari, HummerH2, and in the past several times 911 convertibles) also but these are seasonal offerings and are limited to VERY FEW cars (you can typically only get a crossfire/TT/BMW 6series coupe/convertible and similar there).
There are also some very small rental companies but you probably would not find them on any airport.

Sometimes local porsche dealerships can recommend a local rental company.

    Hope this helps

You need to be at least 30 years old, you need to have a driver's license which is valid at least five years and you need two major credit cars, one of them should be American Express, the other one can be Visa or Mastercard. This is usually the "condition" for most sportscar rent-a-car companies in Germany with some local differences.

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

    Thanks guys, very helpfull!

Well I'm actually 30 in March so that should be ok. Any idea what deposits are like??? I found another site and they wanted a Eur 2900...

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

You MUST be 30? 25 is unacceptibile? Also any ideas with prices, U.S dollar please!

    Re: Car hire, Europe (Germany)

    Sixt rent a car.

Good prices for 911 boxsters, cayennes, and so on. They dont have top of the line sports cars

For more exclusive cars (check in the web Elite rental is total crap since they dont most of the cars, they usually hire them out from certain indviduals, companies) i.e f430s gallardos your looking at 1k a day and thats a very good deal to 2k (euros).

Here is a very very rough (and by no means legally binding or even necessarily accurate) translation of the Avis site. My comments in [].

    ===
    Porsche 911 from 199 Euro/day*
    Porsche Cayenne from 189 Euro/day*

*Price for rental from Mon to Thu incl. CDW/TP (reduction of liability amount in case of damage or theft).
Detailed information regarding the included kilometers and weekend prices can be found here [ http://www.avis.de/avisonline/de/avis.ns...p;&~Default ].

Minimum age and drivers license: 25 and drivers license class 3 [German standard car license] for minimum 3 years [I recommend to call them and make sure your non-German license is accepted]

Credit card rules: Either one of the following credit cards (Avis credit card, Amex gold, Amex platin, black Centurion, German master card gold, German visa card gold, Porsche master card, a credit card which is recognized by Avis and reservation via Lufthansa, co-branded Lufthansa senator card or Avis full redit voucher and a credit card which is recognized by Avis) or two different credit cards in the name of the person renting the car, one of which has to be an Amex or diners club.

    Insurance:
Listed prices are including CDW/TP (reduction of liability amount in case of damage or theft) which reduces deduction/excess in case of damage to 950 Euro.

Mobility limits [uh.. bad English day]: With a Porsche you may only cross borders into Austria or Switzerland. You are prohibited from entering any other countries.

    Cancellation:
You may cancel your Porsche reservation up to 24 hrs prior to the agreed rental start without incurring fees/costs. If you don't pick up the car and the reservation was not cancelled in accordance with the rental rules/agreement, we reserve the right to charge an administrative fee of 35 Euro to your credit card. Important: Your credit card will not be charged at the time of the reservation.

    Further/special rules and regulations apply.

The offer is pending local availability.
