You're right, two different markets. Doesn't everybody remember that movie with Reese Witherspoon called "Legally Blonde?" She drove around in a Boxster. Now with the Cayman available, the chicks can go out and get the hardtop version.
Women are more practical than men when it comes to cars and they don't like to spend as much on them...they'd rather shop for other things. 
Spending money on Gucci handbags and such. BTW, there's more space in the Cayman for shopping bags. Women will love that hatchback. It's obvious to me to whom the Cayman is being marketed. Went to the Detroit Auto Show for the Industry Preview(thanks to my Porsche dealer 
) and my wife liked the Cayman better than the 911 for herself, but thought the 911 was better suited for me due to the look and interior size of it among other things.

That orange 997C2S has been bought by OPC Reading - it was being prep'd for sale when i was in their workshops last week.
It was having both bumpers resprayed, plus one of the rear wings and one of the front. I know Reading are particular about the presentation of their used cars, but it makes you wonder what happened to it while PCGB had it.

Saw my first cayman this morning. I did not think that they were being delivered, but this one looked to be a delived car, not a dealer show car as it did not have the dealer temp plate on. After seeing it my original opinion is confirmed... really ugly from the back and from the side it lookes like a riced 911. I was sadly amazed at how little presence it had from the rear with the small window and funny over excentuated rolloing hips. Made it look really narrow. Is the 911 shape the only porsche body stlye the designers can think up? It seems to me that btwn the boxster, 911 and now cayman they are are lokking the same, in a bad way. .

I think it's all a matter of our various age groups.
Younger guys like these elaborately-styled cars that look like what they grew up with.
I like simple, clean, form-follows-function no frills, which were the Porsches I grew up with (and is the reason I have a little trouble with my somewhat frilly current 997s).

WOW. The rear view! They really had to crimp these fenders to differentiate it from the Carrera!
They had to make the car look different from Carrera and it looks to me the only way they could do that was to make it scrawny, more bone-y, less mammalian and more reptilian.
