    It's a Porsche thing?

    Around the Seattle metro area, it's kind of a tradition that when two Porsche drivers meet on the road, we give each other a little wave or thumb's up. My wife always says something like "why do you guys do that?". I usually respond with "it's a Porsche thing". Is it really, or is it a "Seattle thing"?

    Yeah i guess it is a porsche thing, altough my girlfreind doesn't question why i do it, she just thinks im over obsessed with my car and that im a loser. I beg to differ. Then again it doesn't help that i call them my "porsche buddys" so maybe i am a loser, a happy to be a loser, loser!

    hey ... anyone know a white older style 911 w/ a whale tail running around the Redmond area? I saw one the other day cruising on 520, I slowed and slowed for the driver to catch up so I can wave at him, but he just drove too slow.

    i think it is a Porsche thing. Many people with different cars do that wave, as long as their a rare/niche type of car. For example, back when the New Beetle was introduced, everyone waved to each other. When the Mini came out, everyone waved and gave a thumbs up. I still do it, and usually get a response too!

    maquimike, did you make it to the Seattle meet we had last weekend? We should be having a couple this Spring/Summer, I'll post it on rennteam next time. Hopefully Kevin will make the next one.

    It was a Porsche thing. Very rare to see now in NYC tri-state region, even with Ferrari's, as I think P and F drivers take themselves and their cars too seriously. The MINI crowd was really into it, and while toned down, still quite likely to wave/flash/etc each other. Kind of goes with the "fun" attitude associated with that brand/car.

    Corvette drivers still seem to do this a lot too. Most of my Vette driving friends do it all the time, and get a lot more acknowledgements than I would have expected.

    Do semi trucks count?? friend of mine drives a semi and waves at everyone with 3 or more axles. If the other drivers see him they wave back quite regularly

    Overe here, in Vienna all the motorcycle drivers wave their hand to each other. It doesnt matter which brand or which type.

    Same thing here in central Canada.. maybe all of Canada. Even a biker gang of over 30 guys did the wave thing at us. I was riding with my dad on his motorcycle.
