Cayenne Tyre Wear
Hi all,
I am wondering how you guys are finding tyre wear on your Cayennes, as there seems to be a problem with the UK setup.
Our Cayenne has just had a new set of front tyres at one year and 12k miles, which given that a reasonable amount of this was straight, uncomplicated driving I found to be low. Our previous cars have all averaged around 20k miles or two years on a set of tyres, including the X5.
Now, the reason I am asking this is that our tyre wear was basically in a band on the outer rim of the front tyres, as if the front has too much negative camber and is riding on the outer edges too hard. The tyre specialist we used for the replacements told me that this was pretty much the way for all Cayennes, and that he had seen similar wear at around 5-6k miles, expecially on Turbos.
I contacted Porsche GB and they sent me a lot of 'stock answers', such as "it's a heavy car" (so was our X5), "it's a performance vehicle" (it's a V6, slower than our old X5), and best of all "this is normal for this car". They would not address the camber issue, but have offered me a discount on a 4-wheel alignment (which still works out at three times the price of the specialist who looks after my 911).
Now I don't know if anyone here agrees with me, but I am not happy with having to spend 500 pounds a year on a new set of front tyres just because Porsche believe that it's the norm. Is it me or is there a problem here?
(BTW, I know that a lot of people here are pretty wealthy and probably think nothing of spending that sort of money... but it's not the money that's hurting me as much as the princple, although I can think of better uses for the cash!)
Thanks,
Gary D.
