    SL65 Top speed 215mph

    AMS tested a fully derestricted SL65 at Nardo in their latest issue, and achieved a true 215mph.


    On another note, just came across this

    Apparently SL65 is pretty quick round a track.

    No commercial tire can support that speed AND weight , and none is on the horizon, as no tire manufacturer wants to spend that development money for a very limited market .Therefore , the limited top speed.
    Reason the Bugatti Veyron keeps getting delayed : tires can't handle the speed and downforce of 225 + MPH but reducing the downforce = car wanting to go airborne !

    What about the new Continental tire, the ContiSportContact 2 Vmax, good for 220mph/360kph. Here is the link Continental Vmax

    Does VMax come in MBZ factory approved load rating / sizing for 220 mph speed ?
    Continental people said some handling was sacrificed compared to the " regular " Conti Sport Contact 2 to gain the high speed rating. We already know on the Porsche boards how crummy THOSE tires are as OEM on 996 Turbos in the handling department .But if safe all day autobahn cruising at 220 mph in a modified Porsche ( yeah right ) is the goal only, then those are the ones to strap on for those days .
