SLR

The SLR has a completely new suspension setup which is supposed to make the steering less nervous at high speeds, as well as a new setup in the SBC software which makes the brakes much easier to moderate.
These changes have been made in response to criticism from both prospective owners and the press.

Completely new suspension setup? If it rides much better, then can anyone explain the need for McLaren to build it?

Yeah it looks good, but not $400,000 better than the car it looks, or at least derived most of its looks from, that is the SL55.

But not only that, you are telling us that it's suspension has been "redesigned". Give me an effing break.
Didn't Mclaren develop it?

The car seems to me, to be a flop.

And now with a CL65 or SL65 coming out with 600 plus HP, why would I want to line up and buy one?

I'm not trying to sound smart, but am I missing something?

Mate, there is a big difference between the SLR and the 65 cars, 0-150mph in the SLR takes around 15-16 seconds, the 600+bhp 65 cars? 19.8 seconds!

So performance is not a comparison, and the SLR is in a completely different league, it drives completely different. The redesigned comfort suspension (hoping) should make the car a Mercedes again, and it is a tad expensive when compared to the SL55, but you see, they are completely different cars, and the SLR will blow the doors off of any other Mercedes...

I didn`t say a completely new suspension, I said a new setup.
Just like you change the setup on a GT3.

well, if then change the setup to make it softer, to make it a "mercedes again" as someone posted above, i think thats horrible, because this thing is supposed to be the ultimate GT, and to me, the ultimate GT would not ride and handle like your average mercedes CL...or even the SL, especially for the price they are asking. if they upgrade it, make it better--ie sportier, then thats good, but what i REALLY hope for is that McLaren can become their own brand, to rival Ferrari, and won't have a three pointed star affixed to their hoods.

Absolutely.
My Merc contact told me it would come in two years with a whole bunch of new options, new interior, 13 ext colors, etc.
But it seems that it was a priority, good.

I don't think the suspensions were softer but that the current one was like riding a wooden chassis. That's what the press was unanimous about.
My contact told me for example that the "old" chassis was completely inadapted for UK roads, and from I've seen of Houston roads, true as well.
CF man, you've driven the car (although only on track), do you confirm?

The objective of the SLR is still that it should be the ultimate GT and as such it could not have a soft suspension setup.
No other Mercedes even comes close to the handling and feeling of the SLR.
It feels like a Gocart compared to the SL.
